Surgery reveals Bedard's labrum is torn
I don't even know if I care. Maybe this makes it easier for us to sign him to an insanely cheap deal? I don't know. I know I feel bad for him though. Hopefully this isn't a career-ender, but it's tough to say with labrums.
Also, how the fuck did they not catch this the first time he went on the DL? Seems like a pretty big screw up.

I think we let him walk
I mean, if he were on some other team and had his injury history, would you spend a nickel on the guy?
I will say this, though, if they sign him to some kind of incentive-laden deal, it should be for two years, not one, and have no more than a couple million guaranteed. A lot of pitchers with serious injuries seem to do better the second year back than the first, and the M’s would still have him for that second year.
But I wouldn’t even do that deal. I think we say goodbye. And track down Bill Bavasi and punch him below the Beltre.

So you're saying signing Chris Carpenter, Ben Sheets and Rich Harden would be a stupid idea?
I think the fact that he IS on our team makes you think that we shouldn’t spend a nickel on him since you’re frustrated with Bedard and what we gave up for him. If he was a player on another team I’d see it as risk but reward.
You got slurved!
I for one welcome our sexy* moderating overlords.

He's an excellent pitcher and he may only cost a "nickel"
On one hand I think people want him to stick around because they feel he “owes us” Though he wasn’t the one that made the trade. If we traded bupkis for him, he’d just be an afterthought. But we have to evaluate him sans Adam Jones and the boys. Seeing what the market was this past year on talented pitchers with serious injuries (costing slim to none) I’d like to see him stick around on the cheap.

If we can re-sign him cheaply, what the heck, go for it.
As long as we’re not paying solid starter money to a guy who can’t go every fifth day, it couldn’t hurt to have him around. When he’s healthy and has his pitches working for him, he’s flippin’ amazing.
The same goes for any of the above mentioned pitchers, although having listened to wistful Milwaukee fans for many years while Sheets bounced on and off the DL, I have to admit I’d grimace a bit if we paid more than a pittance for him.
