Bill Hall DFA'd
In addition to the Hardy move, the Brewers DFA'd Bill Hall and fired their pitching coach. Ex-Mariner Chris Bosio will take over that job with the Brewers, and Jason Bourgeois will take Hall's spot.
Hall's 29 and a few years removed from a 35 HR season. Since then, his K rate has increased to around 30% and his wOBA's dipped well below .300. No-risk, possible reward pick up? Or is Bill Hall done as a MLB player?

His bat looks awful, but he's been at least passable at SS, 3B and 2B defensively.
He’s probably not as good as Hannahan, but I’m sure he can find a job somewhere.

His bat looks awful NOW
I don’t get how someone can collapse like this in his 20s. He’s basically the same age as Hannahan, has some positional flexibility, but yeah, Hannahan’s patience may win the day. A part of me thinks that if you’ve got two guys that can play decent 3B and maybe some SS and also K around 30% of their PAs, you may as well go with the one that’s got some pop.

The more I think about this idea the more I like it.

Same here. We could use a RH utility guy.
And taking a quick look at the numbers Hall can play average to slightly better defense at a number of positions.

As an M's fan living near Milwaukee, I'd be opposed to acquiring Hall.
I’m strongly inclined to believe that his 35 homer season was a fluke, and either his vision correction surgery didn’t help or made his sight worse. I’d rather they try to sign Hardy if the Crew are willing to part with him.

Oh no doubt; Hardy's the real target. But Hardy would still cost you something
whereas Hall is looking ~ freely available.

Indubitably.
I was really hoping before the non-waiver deadline that Jack Z was going to hammer out some sort of deal sending Washburn to Milwaukee (he’s from Wisconsin after all) for Hardy, possibly involving other players going both ways. I’m happy with what we got for Washburn, but I think Hardy would’ve been a better, longer term solution at SS than Jack Wilson.
I don’t know what I’d be willing to give up to get Hardy, but I’’d like to see him in an M’s jersey.

It would have cost more than Washburn

Are you sure?
I mean, that’s what I thought, but he’s been sent down to the minors since then.
Just throwing that out there.

He has been sent down most likely in part to delay FA, which makes him more valuable in trade.

Ah, good call
They do have a shitload of middle infielders, though. You’d think they could just, you know, like, give us one..
