M's sign Alex Cintron
Heard via Churchill today that pending a physical, former Diamondback and most recently Washington National, Alex Cintron's going to be joining the organization. And now for those of you who want real links rather than "rumors" from Jason, it was posted on Bleeding Blue and Teal, who point to the Rainiers' Twitter account as the official source.
Will Cintron help the big league club? Who knows, it's pretty doubtful really, but for all intents and purposes this seems like another grab of cold spaghetti from the freely available talent pool.
Good gravy after today's defensive debacle, it's very clear the M's need some major help. I wonder if BJ Ryan, too, might be useful in a LOOGY role or something. What a Charile Foxtrot this team is at times...

We shall form a team made entirely of Nat's castaways
and storm into the playoffs!!
I never really liked the old tagline.

Yes. Children by the millions sing that they’re in love with Alex Cintron. Just think of what that could do for attendance at Safeco.

Yes, yes he is...
Shows to go ya how thin the “F.A.T.” pool is right now for middle infielders…

Watch him come up and win the MVP.

He'd have to come up and post a .999/1.000/2.368 line for that to happen

His UZR numbers at SS are brutal.
Like, almost Yuni bad. So no, I don’t think he’ll be much better than what we’ve already got.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

Were we trying to find the one guy who might be as bad of a shortstop as Yuni?
His defense has been terrible and he can’t hit.

Pretty much non-news imo... Even Crabbe is better as a backup inf at this point.

Yeah
But imagine how much better he’d be if there were someone named Goyle for him to form the latest rendition of The Double Play Twins with.
IF I WAS MANAGER I'D HAVE A FIST FIGHT WITH YUNI RIGHT NOW AND KNOCK HIS FUCKING MONKEY HEAD CLEAN OFF (~EM)

By the way, if we want a solution to our current IF problem that helps long term, why not trade for Willy Aybar?
He shouldn’t cost as much as Brignac and can play 3B for us for the next few years. Good glove, probably 0-10 runs above average at either 3B or 2B and a good bat. Could be a solid 2-3 win player going forward.
I think we could make a deal for him with Bedard plus.

Not as easy as it sounds.
Since that eliminates a lot of their infield depth.

Cintron is Shelton's replacement
With Shelton’s promotion, the Rainiers needed a third baseman (I know, I know). Cintron fills that gap. This is nothing more than Triple-A roster filler.

Works well enough for me...
This is one piece of spaghetti I don’t necessarily want to see if it sticks…

I wonder if we'll ever consider dipping into the pool of Pedro Martinez/Mark Mulder/Ben Sheets?
by Kenny Knows Sports on Jul 9, 2009 12:03 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
The first part of that pool has a mighty fine Jheri Curl sheen on it so I wouldn't advise dipping into it
Nice Guys Finish Third - My semantics are a waste of time.

Pedro wanted to be paid roughly 20 times what he's worth, so I doubt it.

Oh, and Ben Sheets is injured and Mark Mulder is a piece of crap
by Poochie on Jul 9, 2009 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not that I disagree with your assessment, I have no opinion of Mulder, but why is he a piece of crap?

He hasn't had a FIP under 6.00 since 2005 and he hasn't had one under 4.00 since 2003.

He looks even more horrific when you take his batted ball profile into account:

He’s just terribly injury-ravaged.

Dan Haren sure is a sparkling young pitcher isn't he?

Watch, in about a year or two his arm will fall off for "no reason"
He too will fall victim to the ungodly voodoo curse Billy Beane puts on everybody he trades.
