Why hasn't Guillermo Pimentel signed yet?
Never mind.
Two newspapers in D.R. say Guillermo Pimentel signed with #Mariners. Can't confirm, but I'd be surprised if they were wrong

Can I nominate this as the thread for all IFA signing discussion?
My guess is there’s going to be a lot of almost-news like this twitter tid-bit coming out of the Carribean and Pacific Rim in the next couple of days and i doubt we need a separate FP for each.
But yeah, if Pimentel signs then great. I’d much rather get Ackley signed at this point, but hey, it’s only money, and it’s not my money at that so. Go get’m, Jack.

In case you guys didn’t catch it a couple of months ago when I mentioned it, the Mariners signed two Korean high school players, RHP Sun-ki Kim and 3B/C Choi Ji-man. I imagine that news about each will be released with that of Pimentel, when the M’s officially announce it.

Man, I managed both the western and traditional order in the same post.
They’ll probably be known as RHP Sun-ki Kim and 3B/C Ji-man Choi, but the outlets that announced them, being closer to the whole thing, listed them as Kim Sun-ki and Choi Ji-man.

I was reading where the M’s were originally linked to him back in March, THEN Texas came on the scene and tried to steal him but we got him back.

Except, Texas wasn't really trying to steal him.
There was a rumour that Texas was hiding him so other scouts couldn’t see him, and that rumour took off, but really he was just injured and keeping a low profile about it.

I'd also imagine
that given Texas’ financial situation, they were probabl more concerned with signing Scheppers/Purke. This assumption may not fit correctly in the timeline of things though.

It's just one throw.
But he goes across his body, it doesn’t look smooth, it doesn’t look easy, it looks stressful. I could see him having minor shoulder issues now and then maybe, I don’t know. It could be fixed I imagine.

Correct me if I’m wrong on any of this, but I like his batting stance. Pretty classic, maybe wraps his bat a little too far behind his head, but then it’s BP.

Ho yeah.
He’s smooth, no doubt about it. I mean, if this is The Guy, but I’m surprised to see him swing that easily, that smoothly, that consistently. Dude’s huge too. That ball could jump if he squares up on it, and it looks like he was getting a lot out of a swing that wasn’t overly exaggerated.
I mean, I’m one of those armchair scouting types who has learned mostly by sitting around watching videos, so I don’t think of myself as a professional, but I can pick up on a lot of these things without people spoon-feeding it to me. From my perspective, I’ve seen plenty of high drafted eighteen-year-olds that look a hell of a lot worse than Pimentel, or whoever was in that video, does now.

Alright then! There's a lot I could learn about scouting for sure, I'd love to catch a game with a scout even an armchair scout : )
I was surprised how well built that kid is, and the way he sets up for the pitch is nice to watch. That bit where the camera is facing into him instead from behind the plate, I could watch that all day. Getting excited to catch some minor league games, the new front office talking like they want to develop more players for the M’s. Always wanted that Good times.

One of the top hitting prospects in the Carribean
lefty with apparently great power potential, emphasis on potential. Not great speed or arm according to BA, so he’s not gong to be your five-tool player, but (also according to BA) he’s got a very advanced approach for a 16 year old and can hit to all fields so I guess the bat is really something. Anyway, as young as he is I doubt you can start making meaningful projections on him for another three years or so unless your name starts with ‘Bob’ and ends with ‘Engle’.

It looks like the guy who was shooting the video of Pimentel taking batting practice was also catching.
Doesn’t seem like a good way to protect your video camera.
