LL Softball, 8/9
All right, since none of you fuckers took my suggestion I'll just have to take the initiative. August 9th is the Sunday after the USSM/LL gathering at Safeco, and it seems like the perfect time to organize a softball game. God knows they've been put together enough times before, and they always seem to be a hit. Come play and find out where you fit in between Robert and Matthew on the ascending spectrum of athletic ability!
So uh. Location ideas? Roll call?

I'm in!
As for locations, here is a list of Seattle city parks with softball fields. Cal Anderson is nice but there are often league/SU games on Sundays.
I don’t really care where it is since I can drive, but it might be best to play somewhere contral and close to major buslines.

They're not all that soft.
I have a dark yellow and purple softball-sized wound on my stomach to prove it.
You could easily break a nose and shatter an eye socket with a well (or poorly?) placed ball hit back at the pitcher. Pitching softball is a much more dangerous activity than people realize.

Yes it his. 40 ft from the batter who has hitting control FTL!
I almost took one in the face last year 3 weeks before my wedding. It hit me in the right shoulder and ricochet into right field over the 2b head.
I said “fuck this” and DH’d the rest of the season.

I want to say the one across the street is called Fountain Springs or something similar. Now that I’m thinking about it, however, it might be little league size. I know that there are high-school-sized fields over by Westwood Village, about 3-4 miles away from here, on the edge of White Center….

I was looking through present day trading cards online.
I had no idea they photoshopped the uniform onto the players that went to another team during the offseason. Looks a bit tacky to me.
For example, this Griffey one here looks totally shopped.

That's because it is.
And badly. The Mariners road uniform has piping.
Most players who were traded got new pictures taken of them at Spring Training.
This year’s Aaron Heilman card is interesting, actually, because on the front they have him with the Cubs w/a spring training photo. On the back, it says he’s a Mariner.

WingMasters in Ballard plays all the Mariners games, as far as I know. I don’t know if there is a park near there, but they do play the games, there’s a full bar, etc. It’s my understanding that softball is always better with beer….

If the site has not been decided
we should consider whether or not the field has an OF fence. Being able to hit it over the fence was one of the more fun parts about playing at Seattle U last year, but Bobby Morris playfield has no fence, and I’m pretty sure Judkins doesn’t have one up either.

I can't figure that out from San Diego
Someone up there needs to take care of this.
by Jeff Sullivan on Jul 27, 2009 10:36 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I expect you to do everything Jeff.
This is unacceptable.
Also, I hope this ghastly heat is gone by then.

If it's still really hot I expect the people on the bench to fan me

Fan?
They should be using these on you.

I have been looking for one of those. Bartells has failed me.
by msb on Jul 28, 2009 9:17 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Based on an hour and a half of frantic searching it would appear that there are no fans for sale anywhere in Seattle

I have may dad's oscillating fan-- swapped for my small box fan which he resists using.
Thank goodness his apt stays cool.

Palm trees and grapes are not native to the Seattle area.
by Mariner John on Jul 28, 2009 1:57 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I've seen some people plant palm trees infront of their houses or mexican restaurants.
I don’t understand why, I think they are ugly, and just look really out of place up here.

So....here's what I think is happening:
We’re all going to meet up at 12pm/1pm at _______ park in Seattle on August 9th.
by mvjournal on Jul 28, 2009 3:32 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Yes
Let’s us Seattle U’s fields with Judkins as a back up. They are on the same busline and allows easy access to watering holes
by Robert on Jul 28, 2009 3:50 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I will never try to arrange anything ever again
by Robert on Jul 28, 2009 4:44 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay, I'll call the Parks Department tomorrow morning and try to reserve Seattle U or Judkins.
by royalcurve on Jul 29, 2009 12:57 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I am told that to use the park at Seattle U
someone would need to call the Connelly Center @ SU, not the parks department.
by Two Rs and Two Ls on Jul 29, 2009 1:12 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
This is a correct assumption

I do a lot of work for a non-sports portion of the school,
but I am sure I could make a call if they have trouble. I make a point not to ask for favors until I know I need to though so someone should try and reserve it first.

There are softball fields at 5th and Louisa, a few blocks down from The Zoo in Eastlake
Bus routes, nearby bar, a bit north though. I’m not sure if that’s a park or part of a school.
by Kermit. on Jul 31, 2009 12:27 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Eastlake is a massive pain in the ass to get to from most parts of the city.
I do love the Zoo though.

I did not know that, runs counterintuitive to my thought processes
This is why I always say perception is a bitch, nearly every bus trip I’ve taken has gone down 5th at some point. Why can’t the whole world operate the way I do?!!??!!!

I wonder if we could somehow book Safeco...
How much money do you suppose that would be?
by mvjournal on Aug 1, 2009 12:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay
I guess it’s safe to say that’s out of our league, unless someone on here’s a billionaire…

Really?
My old high school district rents it out every year for graduation ceremonies, I don’t think they could afford $95 million.

Unfortunately, there is a slight scheduling conflict on the 9th.
But I am sure that 40,000 people would be thrilled to watch us play slow pitch softball instead.

The scoreboard thing I’m working on will have some team name parts so we can mess around with that.

The readable space of the team name blocks is 4 inches wide by 2.25 inches tall.

but I won’t be able to make it to the game cause I’ll be out of town. Wish I could though.

because I have to work an area wear two of the people trained asked for the day off and another always has it off. I’ll try to switch though.
