LL Softball, 8/9
All right, since none of you fuckers took my suggestion I'll just have to take the initiative. August 9th is the Sunday after the USSM/LL gathering at Safeco, and it seems like the perfect time to organize a softball game. God knows they've been put together enough times before, and they always seem to be a hit. Come play and find out where you fit in between Robert and Matthew on the ascending spectrum of athletic ability!
So uh. Location ideas? Roll call?

I'm in!
As for locations, here is a list of Seattle city parks with softball fields. Cal Anderson is nice but there are often league/SU games on Sundays.
I don’t really care where it is since I can drive, but it might be best to play somewhere contral and close to major buslines.
With lines like that is it any wonder the ladies love Robert?

They're not all that soft.
I have a dark yellow and purple softball-sized wound on my stomach to prove it.
You could easily break a nose and shatter an eye socket with a well (or poorly?) placed ball hit back at the pitcher. Pitching softball is a much more dangerous activity than people realize.
Yes it his. 40 ft from the batter who has hitting control FTL!
I almost took one in the face last year 3 weeks before my wedding. It hit me in the right shoulder and ricochet into right field over the 2b head.
I said “fuck this” and DH’d the rest of the season.

Sounds good to me. Or BF Day, if we are going for walking distance.
I have a folding chair & a cooler.
Where is that one?
I want to say the one across the street is called Fountain Springs or something similar. Now that I’m thinking about it, however, it might be little league size. I know that there are high-school-sized fields over by Westwood Village, about 3-4 miles away from here, on the edge of White Center….

That's a good point. Maybe we could meet for lunch somewhere nearby at a restaurant with a TV and watch the game, then go play softball from 4 to whenever.
If that’s the case, it would be nice if the park were within a mile of an appropriate establishment so we could walk there.
I am not playing softball after eating.

I was looking through present day trading cards online.
I had no idea they photoshopped the uniform onto the players that went to another team during the offseason. Looks a bit tacky to me.
For example, this Griffey one here looks totally shopped.

2009 Safeco Field Record: 5-0 ; Overall Safeco Field Record: 9-4
That's because it is.
And badly. The Mariners road uniform has piping.
Most players who were traded got new pictures taken of them at Spring Training.
This year’s Aaron Heilman card is interesting, actually, because on the front they have him with the Cubs w/a spring training photo. On the back, it says he’s a Mariner.

For simultaneous games we'd need two fields.
Woodland Park has four fields that all have fences, and plenty of parking. Any other parks with multiple playfields?
This would work wonderfully if we play at south Mercer because I can play in this and then frisbee right after.
But alas it would not work because the field is taken on Sundays until 8 pm.

Seriously, though, you should definitely come. That would be really cool.
I think we should limit the USSM mods to one

I'm sure people will bring extra gloves.
I’m going to bring my extra if I can get my original glove back (left it at my out-of-state brother’s house, but I should get it back this weekend).

Maybe if they make a basketball-sized baseball.
2009 Safeco Field Record: 5-0 ; Overall Safeco Field Record: 9-4
Reserving fields costs a little bit of money.
Although I bet everyone who comes would be willing to kick in a buck or two (and if we have enough people, that’s all it’d take)

I can throw in $5-10 maybe. At least 5, we'll see about more when it comes closer.

A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.

That would be cool.
Maybe then you can send your photos over to Daniel (Two R’s and Two L’s) and he can photoshop the LL trading cards.

Great, now I gotta come up with another design.
Thanks for the work.

It's not that much work.
Maybe 20 minutes if you wanted to create a totally over-complicated card with way too may visual elements. Like this one.

That's like part '87 Topps, part '97 Metal series.
I was mostly joking about the “work,” by the way. Graphic design is one of my hobbies.

Speaking of photographs
If I am able to make it, I would also be taking pictures (most likely) and they would also most likely wind up on my blog – at least some of them might, it does involve baseball-ish things and is somewhat Mariners-esque. If anyone seriously objects to that, my email is in my profile, and please let me know. I have no wish to alienate anyone.
Also, are there going to be team names, or is it taken quite that seriously?

Sometimes there's team names, but they're not thought up ahead of time
last year we had a game between Team Tractor and the Orange Cones.

Ha, what do you know,
it’s the one year anniversary of that game.

It's one small step for man
and one giant leap for softball.
Nice Guys Finish Third - My semantics are a waste of time.
Apparently we also had the team names of
Team Rays and Team Awesome.
I remember BJM picking Rays, but Team Awesome seems kind of lame and unoriginal.
