In my opinion, you were pretty unfair to Betancourt. The players we traded for him are worth nothing in our system.

We need a short stop.
He has had 3 full years in thw MLB in the past. (150+ Games 500+ At Bats)

He hit .279, .289, and .289.

Those may not be Derek Jeter numbers, but they can sure as hell help the Royals now. Even at his .250 currently, thats higher than our entire bench and half of our every day lineup. We need somebody.

Posnanski being unfair to Yuni:

I've been anticipating something from Joe Posnanski, thanks for the link

He’s such an amazing word smith, his little asides in italics are always a gem. Favorite quotes, outside of the entire piece:

…we’re talking legendary, like in three hundred years kids will be sitting around a campfire and singing songs about how bad a shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt was.

…last year ranked 35th among shortstops, this year he’s 33rd, and you might recall there are only 30 teams in baseball.
Execrable.

The one I know is actually happy about this

I mean they had to deal with Tony Pena Junior, who basically hits like the average pitcher. I don’t have to heart to tell him that Betancourt is awful.

Derosa.

It is worth noting

that Betancourt is still capable of being a lot better, at least, both in the field and at the plate, if he’s willing to take his job seriously and put the work and attention in — I don’t see it happening, given the various failed attempts here to get through to him, but it could; TPJ is never going to learn to hit.

What happened to Rany?

I saw something about Rob Neyer mentioning that the Royals had lost him or something – did they ban him or did he just give up?

He ripped into the team a few weeks ago, and he got whatever "credentials" he had taken away.

He called for the team’s head trainer to be fired, citing a bunch of injuries over the years that probably could have been prevented.

Righteous and angry Joe Posnanski is boring.

Posnanski’s at his best (made his name) writing whimsical pieces on the Hall of Fame (not that it hasn’t been done before by other less known bloggers though). The other stuff is actually not so good.

The asterisk-laden ramblings are what Posnanski does worst, in my opinion.

And caring about the Hall of Fame would be a huge waste of my time. I prefer when he writes about things that matter.

Which is pretty much all of his non-HOF musings posts

of course he’s at his best when discussing something that upsets him, or is completely nonsensical (like infomercials!!)

*I'd* rather hang out here than read Joe Posnanski

but that’s mostly because he writes a lot more about the Royals than he does about the M’s, and I’m not all that interested in the Royals most of the time.

He writes a lot more about baseball and life than he does the Royals

and most people around here are interested in both baseball and life.

You're doing yourself a disservice

His Snuggie pieces alone are worth checking his blog every day, and the baseball stuff he covers is far more than just the Royals.
