I wonder if the Twins have team-building workshops on how to cultivate a proper sideburn.

For some reason I saw Jose Lopez and thought Jose Vidro.

I was scared for a split second and then caught my breath when I remembered Jose Lopez was not an overweight player with mediocre offense and poor defense who’s hitting in the middle of the ord… oops.

I actually bought a Betancourt t-shirt.

Any sideburn-cultivating workshops they may have are clearly working quite well.

Maybe they stole the Blue Jays' mutton chop consultant away from them?

The Jays had some ballin chops a year ago.

The backslash needs to be in front of the greater than symbol.

You seperated them with the width thing. Also you need an equal sign, not a dash. Also, control via height, not width.

by Matthew on Jun 6, 2009 12:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Here.

Change (jpg"/width-200>) to (jpg"width=200/>). The slash goes after the width.

This reminds me of the time.

When the SB Nation system made previewing mandatory and we somehow convinced them to change it otherwise.

by ThundaPC on Jun 6, 2009 12:27 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We did that?

what shitheads

Why could we not have convinced them to make capitalization and proper grammar mandatory?

that would have been more helpful.

It's a pain on normal comments.

but for images, there’s no excuse except laziness and I would hope by now that my reputation for abiding laziness is known enough.

by Matthew on Jun 6, 2009 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now that I mention it.

I wonder if there’s a way to make the use of the subject line mandatory? It was one of those changes from 1.0 that few under the radar that would be pretty handy these days.

by ThundaPC on Jun 6, 2009 12:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They really should give managers a lot more control over what's required blog to blog.

I wouldn’t want them to implement system wide requirements, because other blogs are run differently and that’s fine. But we should be able to require preview on images, subject lines at all times, etc. They clearly have the ability to do that.

Anchorage FOX affiliate is showing the god damned Dodgers vs. Phillies.

What. The. Fuck?

I called to complain but their offices are closed today.

East Coast Bias strikes again.

They assume everyone outside Seattle wants to watch Phillies-Dodgers. Or any team besides the Mariners.

I actually bought a Betancourt t-shirt.

by Hopefulmsfan on Jun 6, 2009 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They're two of the best teams in baseball so I don't blame them.

Give them credit for showing a good non RS NY matchup

by Poochie on Jun 6, 2009 1:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course they are

But expecting them to bear the Mariners’ game to non-local markets when they clearly have a more interesting game to show is retarded.

Not true.

Huh?

It’s easily the weakest of their “big 3”, and I hate the production, but there are many solid songs on it

Nope.

Beatles actually suck.

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 6, 2009 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Beatles may be the most polarizing band in music history.

At this point, there are only two camps.

Camp A thinks that The Beatles were musical gods and everything they wrote was music from the heavens.

Camp B rose up in direct response to Camp A. Camp B hates the irrational popularity of The Beatles and in turn hates the band itself.

Maybe, just maybe there’s some middle ground there.

by BrianL on Jun 6, 2009 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually my only problem with the beatles is.

They’re considered the worlds greatest band and I can’t name one song of theres.

by tootthekazoo on Jun 6, 2009 1:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Further elaborated

1) Your original statement is confusing as they only put out one record after said time period

2) Superunknown is by far their most Beatlesy record, and DOTU is far less accessible and radio friendly so perhaps you are confusing it with something else.

by Poochie on Jun 6, 2009 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well that's just flat out bullshit.

I want Justin TImberlake’s babies and Nirvana is one of my all-time favorite bands.

by acblue on Jun 6, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Perhaps I have demanding taste?

I will admit that most widely popular music doesn’t do it for me but to insinuate that it is based upon a desire to appear less mainstream is a giant load of bullshit because I couldn’t actually give less of a shit how popular something is.

by acblue on Jun 6, 2009 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I will say that the insinuation that I like Soundgarden because of Superunknown is total bullshit

especially since I am on record as saying that BMF is the superior album, but at the same time Superunknown is a masterpiece and I have no idea how one could like one but not the other.

by Poochie on Jun 6, 2009 2:09 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think you like them for Superunknown

I was just trying to make this website less boring.

I didn't realize until I turned on the game it's on FOX.

That would explain it then, my bad.

Arkansas/Florida state has been a great game.

Florida State down 5-7 in the top of the 9th, facing elimination, just rallied to score 3 runs. Going to bottom 9.

The Sewdish version is so full of subtlety and simplicity.

Things an American director would have no concept of. It will ruin the story. Cloverfield being the shining example of bombastic American filmaking. Matt Reeves is a terrible choice for this material.

by thewyrm on Jun 6, 2009 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

I thought Cloverfield was the first movie in a long time that didn’t feel like it was american cinema.

NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 6, 2009 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It is a generalization, but not an unfair one I think.

American movies are almost universally style over substance. Foreign films without Hollywood’s special effects budgets have to rely on subtlety.

Fear the NPE

by thewyrm on Jun 6, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You can generalize, fine.

But saying this: “Things an American director would have no concept of.” is not a generalization.

by Matthew on Jun 6, 2009 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough.

But after seeing the film, I just can’t think of a single American director who could possibly match the tone of the Swedish film. Let alone surpass it.

Fear the NPE

by thewyrm on Jun 6, 2009 1:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's almost always true for remakes

but off the top of my head:

Cronenberg, the Coens, Soderbergh, Raimi, Guy Maddin (Canadian, but works in the US) and Solondz could have done a great job with the film and that’s without trying that hard.

by acblue on Jun 6, 2009 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Have you seen Memento?

Its not his fault after one movie he started getting huge budgets.

NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 6, 2009 2:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

One thing I didn't understand.

Shouldn’t he be calling 911 every twenty minutes because he keeps thinking his wife has just died?

Fear the NPE

by thewyrm on Jun 6, 2009 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

To summarize:

I’ve never seen Following but I hear it’s pretty good. Memento was very good. The Prestige was okay. Batman Begins was really promising but fell apart in the third act.

The Dark Knight was awesome but I had some very serious problems with the resolution of the movie and thought it went in some very odd directions. With a lesser cast it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good.

You certainly have to give Nolan some credit for that, and I do think it was an excellent movie considering the constraints you have to work with, but it was not as good as some people think it was and the resistance to any criticism of the film and by extension Nolan puzzles me.

by acblue on Jun 6, 2009 2:20 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Speaking of Raimi

Has anyone seen Drag me to Hell yet?

NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 6, 2009 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with the statement for the most part.

But I don’t think Cloverfield is a good example. Its about as different as most american made movies as it comes.

NEEDS MORE FREEDOM!

by Scruffy Lefty on Jun 6, 2009 1:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I call complete and total bullshit.

Maybe 10% of American movies fall into this category and a lot of those are directed by foreign directors and star foreign actors. They are American only in shooting location and studio backing.
