Notes
Lots of little stuff that I figured deserved a holding thread:
-Jose Lopez is back and in the lineup today.
-Yuniesky Betancourt is heading to the DL.
-Ronny Cedeno is taking over as the starting shortstop.
-Kenji Johjima is set to be activated and start tomorrow.
-Shawn Kelley is a couple days away from joining Tacoma on rehab.
-Erik Bedard's return has been pushed back to July 4 at Boston.

Come on Ronny, don't fuck this up.
Also, I’m beginning to think Bedard is playing for the Mariners in 2010.
I would imagine so
and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him offered a short extension.

I doubt the team is interested in signing him long term
and if he takes a short term deal to try and recoup some market value he would be an idiot to do it here.

The best news of the bunch
is the Shawn Kelley news. Godspeed Shawn.

Seriously though
at least he has a clean MRI.
I can't believe there are people who want to re-sign him to a monster deal

I wonder what it would take to sign him.
Given the SP market out there this winter.
Isn't pretty much everyone interesting a huge injury risk?
This could be a weird off-season.

Ideally I would sign all three to 3/$15+incentive contracts

15 bucks is pretty cheap these days.
I will smash your face into a jelly.

It seems like with the new CBA
and financial environment teams have been getting very creative in the way they structure contracts (Griffey’s is amazing). If there is a way to minimize the risk, I’d love to sign him for something like four or five years. Maybe three guaranteed years with a base salary of, say, 8 million but as much as 16 if he pitches over 160 innings. The last two years are a mutual option that vests (for Bedard) if he makes 160IP that year. Something like that.

that’s a good sign, roght? right?

Woodward is down as well, anyone know when that happened and for how long?
Not that I’m thrilled at the prospect of his bat in the lineup.
As for Cedeno… There’s really never going to be a better time for him to establish a career as a regular. The bar is impossibly low, and the guy blocking him has done as much as anyone and more to make sure the door is open to him. Ronny, please. Your family is hungry, and your tattoos look ridiculous in the context of your slash line. Please Ronny.
