Griffey says he's willing to do the little things
but if he really wanted to help the team win he’d save his home runs for when the M’s really need them.
Besides, we played well tonight.
Bedard pitched well, Ichiro kept his steak alive, and although we left runners on base, we also brought some home.

If Ichiro can do that, he's reach a whole new level of "rare"
I never really liked the old tagline.

It was too hot out there
But I had a blast.

Gameday said it was 83 degrees and I couldn't believe it
by Jeff Sullivan on Jun 2, 2009 10:50 PM PDT up reply actions
It was nasty
We were sitting in direct sunlight for about 45 minutes before it finally went down before the game started, and it just stayed hot – it’s not the hot part I mind – it’s the swamp-ass humidity we’ve been having. I love AZ heat because it’s dry, but this is stupid.

It felt like the midwest today.
It was gross.

It's going to keep on, too
I just watched the news, and it’s supposed to be like this into the weekend. Yoiks!

If we have to keep the muggy for the heat to stay I am ok with it.
We deserve this after such a shitty cold winter.
Uncomfortably muggy is just as unbearable as shitty winter weather to me.

My wife says I am crazy, but I miss a muggy day every once in a while.
My trip to Missouri last summer was awesome for me, but she hated it.
C'mon down to Portland!
85 and thunderstorms on the menu for today! Whee! Humidity is AWESOME! Especially when it falls from the sky as rain!

Which made it feel a lot hotter
Absolutely true.

84 + humidity is gross no matter where you are.
84 by itself is not too hot unless you are a whiny person.
Personally, I'd argue that 84 without humdity is tolerable, while 84 without is not.
But 84 is comfortable only when there is a nice breeze to go along with it.
Also, I am at least moderately whiny.

People have every right to not like hot weather.
by Aaron Campeau on Jun 2, 2009 10:53 PM PDT up reply actions
I agree, I hate hot weather.
Seattle is generally very livable, but sometimes it is both hot and humid. I hate that.

San Diego gets pretty muggy.
I don’t think there’s a better city than Seattle, but when when it get muggy here, we natives complain big time.
by Sinking Away on Jun 2, 2009 11:04 PM PDT up reply actions
I agree. Fuck this place.
But I say this as someone who thinks 80 degrees is worse than an eternity in hell. It’s hard to find another city where you can be this comfortable 12 months a year.
San Diego is more mild.
We have a few weeks of annoying heat, but we don’t get any of the cold winter.
I guess.
Although the sun’s ALOT more intense at that latitude, as I learned to my shoulders’ dismay a while back.
It seldom breaks 90 here.
I find pretty much any heat to be obnoxious, but compared with other cities, San Diego is very mild. I’d rather live in Seattle, but when it comes to consistency in knowing what the weather’s going to look like when you wake up, it’s tough to beat San Diego. It’s either sunny or a little more sunny.
Boy, that kind of forecast would be nice.
We get sunny, partly sunny, cloudly, sprinkles, showers, rain. all in one day. It’s a little hard to know what to expect.

Speaking of which:
I read this book by Cliff Mass called The Weather of the Pacific Northwest and it was fantastic. Best thing I read about Pacific Northwest weather since I found Wolf Read’s The Storm King website.
Cliff's book is a bit more rigorous that Steve & Scott's :)
but they both point out that it is hell to forecast around here.
Nice piece about Mass here
Nope.
I feel as though I do, though having listened to him on KUOW for years — and I use both his blog & Sistek’s when feeding my winter weather paranoia.
He was on channel 9 today
Apparently Seattle has one of the driest summers in the nation.
San Francisco can
but when you get inland in the SF area it gets hot fast.

Portland's climate is warmer than Seattle's
in the summer it’s typically about 10 degrees warmer here than there, and we don’t have the Sound cooling us down so we get humidity as well. Not Northeastern or Southern humidity, but still.

I was at the game today too... was there any mention in the pregame, or do people know in general, why Jaukubaskas was wearing a little pink backpack before the game?
Because I am intrigued.
Jak is a rookie
The backpack is full of either medical supplies or snacks for the bullpen (I think the Hello KItty one is snacks, the princess one Jak was wearing is medical stuff). They burn it at the end of the season. I would gladly take the HK one….

Well thanks to both of you.
I was sort of hoping it was some mark of shame. But rookie hazing is always good.
That's kind of a mark of shame.
They don’t seem to like it much.

So Ibanez hit two more two-run jacks tonight (19 on the season)
Has he been worth more wins than the entire Mariners team put together?
His 2009 UZR fell from 6-something to 3 something in only a week!
He must’ve had a Raul-esque week in the field.
Also, I wonder if FanGraphs will create a feature that let’s you track UZR data-week by week over the course of a season – that would be sweet.
Mariners are 9 WAR. As of yesterday, Ibanez was worth 3 WAR.
I know it was not a serious question but I still think the answer is pretty cool.
...and now I'm here
9 Rauls couldnt field a cold. Not that that would guarantee victory or anything

He's saying that the entire Mariners team could beat an average AAA team with Raul Ibanez playing in left field
by Graham MacAree on Jun 3, 2009 4:06 PM PDT up reply actions
Or better,
The entire Mariner team would tie a team of Ibanez, 3 league average players, and the remainder AAA/replacement players. Or I’m not saying anything.
...and now I'm here
So where did Branyan's homer land?
I couldnt really tell on the MLB.com replay, seemed like he got all of it, but that he skied it. Couldn’t see where it went exactly.
