Come to think of it, it works well: Aardsma going out against the Angels for the fourth time in four games was brave and courageous and had about as much a chance of success as the 300 against the Persians (except there’s no Athenians equivalent around for us to win the Battle of Salamis afterwards). :(

So All Night with Jason Smith mentioned the Ichiro hitting streak last night.

It was Mike Salk in for Smith. However, he preceded the hitting streak info with saying that noone in Seattle likes Ichiro and he’s the most polarizing figure in Seattle. Normally I don’t care what the national media says about us but the guy has a show in Seattle on 710 and now the country thinks we all hate our best player.

I actually bought a Betancourt t-shirt.

While his swing is fine mechanically, he doesn’t square balls up well at all; he pushes his hands at the ball instead of the bat, so he swings and misses often and really doesn’t want the ball inside. When he does square one up, he has some power and puts good backspin on the ball, so there’s hope, but the team that drafts him is going to have to teach him how to hit. If he hits just a little, he’s a big-league backup, and of course any more offense gives him a chance to be a regular.
