Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Tuesdays With Dustin Ackley

If you have a minute and want to hear from our probable draft pick, go read a little interview over at BP. Prepare yourself for such captivating insights as "But I really just go up there and hit" and "I don’t know. I’ve never thought about that." Marvel at how he uses the word 'hustle' five times in six sentences. Dustin Ackley sounds like Erik Bedard would sound if he operated under the condition that all of his answers have to take at least five seconds.

I brought this up at the game yesterday.

Graham (I think) mentioned that Ackley had a reputation for not liking media attention.

My question was why even bother running that interview at all? That’s the sort of piece that a good editor should have quashed.

Sounds familiar

There was a passage in Moneyball where Billy Beane, as a young prospect, compared himself unfavorably to minor league teammate Lenny Dykstra because Dykstra didn’t have much weighing his mind down; he just went out and hit. Dykstra was born to be a ballplayer. Same goes for Ackley, I guess, and that’s not a bad thing.

I'm not worried

because he can just go to Driveline Mechanics and get all the information he needs.

Nice Guys Finish Third - My semantics are a waste of time.

Not really

We read a lot about how pitchers changing their mechanics basically has no quantifiable effect on their pitching, so why should hitting be much different? If the kid can just hit, more power to him. It means one slump won’t make him go change too much and really throw him off.
