Carlos Silva ----> DL; Vargas in rotation

Per Baker:

Just got the word that Carlos Silva has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation and stiffness in his right shoulder. Jason Vargas now moves to the rotation in his place and takes Silva's scheduled spot next Tuesday in Arlington, Tex. against the Rangers.

Brandon Morrow comes off the DL today and fills the vacant roster spot.

Silva had stiffness in his shoulder two weeks ago, when he won his only start this season in Anaheim against the Angels. Still, the M's let him go out for two more starts to try to make it work and he couldn't.

.....

Silva will be eligible to come off the DL on May 22.

All righty then.

No, they won't

Selig is a tool of the owners, and the owners have no reason to stop this kind of thing.

Isn't this at least somewhat legit?

I know that these injury reports can, to say the least, be exaggerated, but hasn’t Silva already alluded to pitching through pain earlier in the season? I feel like I remember the trainers coming out to the mound at one point during his start in LA.

You fast-posted me by four minutes.

Damn my poor typing skills.

Fake injury or not, Carlos needs some time to work on some things. I doubt that’ll help him any, but whatever.

Realistically, what can he work out?

He is just a guy with stuff that isn’t major league ready. His sinker could add some more sink … but it wouldn’t take away the fact that he has no outpitch and his offspeed stuff is poor.

At this stage, I’d like to see him try and learn a new pitch like a splitter or something like that. Or try and add some deception to his delivery. Or learn a knuckleball. Seriously. If he is going to be here for the next three years, he’s going to have to do something dramatically different to what he has shown the past few years to be league average.

Though,

“I Club Silva” was huge with opposing batters.
