Wow, the A’s couldn’t pull any of their usual BS magic tricks today.
So while Bedard is still pitching well. When and who do we trade him to?
You mean while Bedard is still healthy.
If we’re truly out of it a couple days before the deadline to a contending team of sorts maybe the Blue Jays or something…
You got slurved!
Free Tommy Hanson! Free Jeff Clement! Free Michael Saunders!
Subject line, bitte.

Am I right to fear Bedard's lack of swinging strikes? It seems like it's been going on for his last few starts.
But his FB seems faster and his curve has looked majestic, so I am puzzled.

It might effect his trade value.

The only people who look at stats like that are the big SABR guys.
Like Epstein. It shouldn’t hurt much.
I think you're mistaken, Coach.
There are a lot of smart teams out there now. If the GM isn’t a big SABR guy, he probably at least has a few guys under his wing who are.
He had nine missed bats in his previous start. Just five in the before that, but 12 in the one before that.
I don’t think it means anything.
Sounds good to me then.
How many did he miss in his first start against the A’s this year, just out of curiosity? Maybe that’s why today’s start seems less impressive to me; it seems like he missed a lot more then.
It’s crazy how a difference of 2-3 missed bats per game makes the game feel so different when watching.

He missed 12 the first time
but that lineup had Cust and Chavez in it.

Any idea how long that Branyan HR actually was?
I don’t know a good place to go to look for these kinda of things.
Hittracker will probably have it up tomorrow.

I've heard Hittracker was up and stuff
but I had no idea there was already so much cool shit you can look at. That’s awesome.
It really is pretty badass.
I highly recommend Greg Rybarczyk’s article in the 2009 THT annual that analyzes data from HitTracker. Fascinating stuff.
Branyan's dong:
True Distance: 426’
Standard Distance: 420’
Speed Off Bat: 106 mph
Apex: 120’
Branyan’s homer was only the 10th longest by true distance yesterday, and only the 12th fastest off the bat, but the apex was the highest.

How does he even walk with a dong like that

He has very stout legs.
And a helluva strong back.

The lesson is that if you give a ball massive hangtime while moving forward at a slower pace, it will still go a hell of a long ways

And holy fuck, 120 feet?
That’s like a nine-iron to left-center

I'm watching the replay on FSN right now.
A great game to win. I’m still finding it hard to believe how well the bottom of the line-up played offensively. I’m feeling joy. Branyan’s HR was beyond smacked. Ichiro kept his streak alive. Bedard was good. I know, we are playing the A’s but it’s sure fun to win.
Please see my apology in the 5/26 Game Thread (1st one). Thank you to everyone who have already accepted my mistake.
I really do want to do naughty naughty things to Russell Branyan.
What a fantastic pickup.
"Part, fools!
Put up your swords. You know not what you do."
I couldn't agree more.
He’s exceptional. That home run went a long ways.

This game will be known for the rest of the year as the game that turned around the fortunes of the Mariner.
I like making wild, insane predicitons.

Catching a homerun hit by Russell Branyan cures your body of cancer.
