Mr. Coffee --> callup
So, we all remember Wilson "Mr. Coffee" Valdez, right?
Apparently, he's being called up to the New York Mets. With Reyes going on the DL, they needed a shortstop, so they acquired him for cash from the Indians, where he was hitting .198 for Triple-A Columbus. Here's the link.
Jeez, it really must be hard to find shortstops on the scrap heap. As bad as Yuni is, certainly there's someone out there that can be pulled off the AAA scrap heap that would at least be slightly above replacement-level...

I'm not sure why this wasn't about Joe DiMaggio

Where have you gone . . .
I remember seeing an interview with Paul Simon a long time ago in which he tells a story about meeting Joe DiMaggio in the 1970s. According to Simon, DiMaggio tells him something to the effect of “what do you mean ‘where have I gone?’ I have not gone anywhere. I have been right here. I have been making Mr. Coffee commercials.”

I also remember him talking about meeting Mickey Mantle
who was his favorite ballplayer; when Simon said that, the Mick asked him, “Why didn’t you write the song about me instead of DiMaggio?” The only response he could come up with was “Syllables, Mick. Syllables. ‘Where have you gone, Mickey Mantle’ — it just doesn’t work.’”

Rhyme master Simon.
Should’ve seen him interviewed on the Colbert Report. Usually Colbert makes the people he interviews look like fools, but Simon held his own pretty good.
