Lookout Landing BMO league

Since a few of you said that you were interesting in starting another one of these leagues, I created one. For Sec. 108, BMO is...basically like any baseball video game, except it's all simulations. You take control of a team, set their lineup, rotation, etc., and their finances which are split into three categories-Farm System, Scouting and Medical Staff. You get a budget, like in football, to base your expenses and stuff on. The game goes, I believe, up to a 1000 years into the future so there's really no cap on how long we can do it for. I plan on creating a forum for the league similar to the one we had before, but I hope to actually get 5 people-the minimum to start simulations-before I do so. The name has also changed, so the link to the site is now this. You'll need to search for the league, and it's password protected. League name is Lookout Landing and the password is yunisucks.

I created mine yesterday but didn't tell Brett.

I suggested that we start another LL BMO League and apparently he decided to create his own.

by Coach Owens on May 16, 2009 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey Coach nothing against you and I really thank you for bringing the new BMO to my attention

But I think it would be more fun if we consolidated the leagues so we can have more owners and Brett already has experience being a league commissioner.

by Robert on May 17, 2009 8:35 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm just wary of needing such a high minimum of owners to start the league.

1. Because I’m not sure how many people actually play the new BMO and 2. I don’t know how long it’ll be free.

by Coach Owens on May 17, 2009 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope. You wouldn't need to anyways.

BMO is no longer owned by Sports Mogul (which is why the name is now “Baseball Manager Online”)

by Coach Owens on May 17, 2009 11:34 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even with the paid version it was only $5.

Plus, the more active owners, the better the league will be.

I can’t promote A to AA or AAA and I don’t see anywhere that tells me what side of the plate these guys bat from.

For Brett’s league I decided to reap the rewards of the Bedard trade and picked Baltimore.
I went with the Marlins for Coach’s league.

Needless to say Wieters and Tillman have made my roster.

I want to know how they rate the players.

Aramis Ramirez, Cody Ross, and Tim Raines jr (!!!!!) are the only players with a top rank of 100.

Also the bio for Franciso Rodriguez says “Rodriguez worked in relief in 2008, making 76 appearances on the mound. He collected 2 wins while posting a 2.24 ERA. Rodriguez is among the league’s best pitchers. Rodriguez is unhappy as the setup man for the Mets. He thinks he could be the closer with the Mariners.”

Question: should I balance cash to make it "fair", or should I force people who inherit dumb teams to deal with having little/no money in the bank from the previous regime?

I wouldn’t change contract values or anything, it would just give everyone the same amount of money at the start. I’m leaning towards no, but I’ll do it if a 3/4 majority wants to.

Hey Coach

Can you split up a couple of the forums?

I’d like there to be Free agent signings, Trade announcements, and Trade Discussion, if you could. Keeps everything a bit more tidy.

Also, I’d like to announce a rule, which I will put in the forum later: maximum expenses are $20 million a piece. If we keep getting higher, then people will go bankrupt and fuck up their franchises beyond belief. It’s not fun if people are constantly in debt, so I don’t want to watch that happen.

For those who were in the old LL league, perhaps you can give some insights to your experiences RE: trades with computer teams. The old rule was that if a 2/3 majority (or so, I think) approved a proposal a user made to a computer team, I would use my commissioner powers to make that swap for them. Is that good, or should we just go without CPU trading?

Also, I’d like to do a 2-4 day period after we have enough teams where I pause the league and we can have our “offseason”, basically making pre-season signings and trades. Sound fair?

Yesterday's Pants
A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.

by BrettJMiller on May 17, 2009 11:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Also, concerning pre-season FAs:

We will likely have threads in the message boards bidding for said players that will close whenever we decide to be done with the “offseason”

Yesterday's Pants
A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.

by BrettJMiller on May 17, 2009 11:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

One more thing:

Should we be able to trade draft picks? I liked it last time, but there should be a limit, like you can’t trade your 1st and 2nd round picks two years in a row or something. As far as trading picks, it works by agreeing to a deal for a pick mid-season, and then the team giving away the pick trading the player the CPU gives them in the draft from that round to the other player. Sound good?
