Article in the paper a few years ago, he was working for a family business.

It's more a maths joke.
Because n/0 = ∞ for all n, so the result is the same no matter how many non-fastballs he threw. And, truth be told, as long as it was more than 0, However, 1 is not really all that much greater than 0. A very small change resulted in a huge percentage change.
