Request for photos
I'm writing an article for my campus paper about Dustin Ackley. The problem is, I have no photos for it. It's a long shot, I know, but does anybody have a picture of Ackley I can use that is not copyrighted? The sooner the better on this, really. Can anyone help a brotha out? :o
It can be of anything, though I would prefer if it was him in action. Maybe a swing, a dive, or a rare shot of him playing OF. But I'd settle for a face shot if that's all that anyone can do.

You can't just use AP photos?

Our suck-ass paper doesn't have a contract with the AP

Hmmm....
I don’t either, but I use them all the time. As far as I’m concerned, if there is no copyright or watermark, it’s fair use. But maybe a paper is different. :/

I'm wondering if it makes a difference
If you’re a commercial entity. I am not, and so far, nobody has come after me. I also give credit for anything NOT off my camera to the AP…I figure if they wanted to stop me, they’d have come after me by now.
Even so, I highly encourage Mr Miller to check out this site, and find out if his paper can use it:

Nah, that's not fair use.
If you see a watermarked AP photo, it’s because it’s the low-res version meant to show potential buyers or current subscribers what the photo looks like, but make sure they can’t run it as is. AP doesn’t watermark the pictures it actually sells, though it does usually require that it be credited to AP.
Technically, you’re probably breaking the law, but as you mention below, if you’re not using it for any sort of commercial purpose and you’re just running a blog or whatever, they’re not going to come after you. The Web has blurred these boundaries, and AP is inclined to defend its work, but I imagine they have bigger fish to fry.
Oh, no
I’m the smallest fish at the barbecue, trust and believe. haha!

Look at the bottom right hand side to see what kind of copyright the photographer has. Flickr has 6 different levels of copyright.
Find the photo you want and ask the photographer.
That is what the search came up with:
Jeez no kidding!
While I have no problem with people using my images (I get a TON of site hits from MySpace, for example), even as a courtesy, I’d prefer that people let me know about it…

I'm with you on that
Though I have no idea why anyone would want to use any of my photos – they usually turn out pretty grainy. :/
