Favor - Lineup Optimization
Hello fellow LLers,
I coach a 13-14 year old baseball team and we've played 11 games. We're 9-1. (We had a game protested that we have to replay the last inning of. We'll win that and move to 10-1.)
That being said, I don't think we're always getting the maximum output from our lineup.
Below, you'll find stats from the 10 games we've played that counted (stats from protested game omitted).
(Alex is the only LH batter on the team)
And so, my request: put together the optimal lineup (regardless of position) just 1-9 what you'd put as your batting order.
Thanks in advance!

You didn't put Wes in there?
Just looking at his stats I can tell he’s the scrappy, gritty, dirt on his pants player that does the little things and needs to play everyday to be appreciated.
Fans are typically idiots.

Is this a select league?
I used to coach the same age group for a couple of years. I kept track of all the stats but I still managed to get all the players the same amount playing time and ABs regardless of how horrible a player was. That said, I feel bad for Wes.

Yea, it is a select league.
Wes has missed four of our games to go turkey hunting (of all things) with his pops.
He also generally doesn’t care, doesn’t hustle or try in practice, and thinks his approach to the game is fine, because he was the best player when he was 10 years old and his talent will carry the day.
If he couldn’t pitch, there’d be no reason he’d be on the team, though.

So, Wes isn't WFB, he's Jose Jopez.

Alex is the only lefty hitter. I'll edit the FP to reflect that.

Admittedly it's a small sample size.
But, it’s also a little league team that’ll play ~15-20 more games, so it’s not like the sample size is going to grow all that much..
If I had to guess, I’d say that Dylan is better than he’s been, but he’s looked real bad at the plate lately. Everyone else seems right on par with how I thought they’d hit.

Whats the order that you have typically been using?
I don't care how well he does for the M's...FUCK ENDY CHAVEZ

Typical order
1. Scotty (he’s 4’8" and draws a ton of walks as you can see)
2. Devin (he’s been flat out crushing the ball lately)
3. Tyler (probably our best “hitter”)
4. Josh (he hit an absolute bomb last night, hit the light pole behind LF about 25-30 feet up)
5. O (he’s an enigma, he strikes out a ton, and he has almost no plate discipline, but he gets hits and gets on base)
6. Alex
7. Dylan (his O-Swing% would be really high, and he’s really fast)
8. Lane
9. Drew / Jacob

Does Devin play up the middle?
If so, does he need an agen — sorry, adviser?

Yea, Devin plays SS and is a monster with the glove.

The M's are looking for a slick-fielding SS with a good bat.
How soon can Devin meet with the FO?

I Need Platoon Splits...
1) Chart each child’s OBP and SLG platoon splits vs. LHP and RHP
2) Use the following formula: (OBP*2) + SLG vs. LHP and RHP
3) Bat in descending order of goodness depending upon the opposing starting pitcher’s handedness

Can we get some pitching stats on Wes?
by Rudy4three on May 13, 2009 11:53 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Our fourth best pitcher...
Throws low 60s, FB/CB
In our league, you can only throw 95 pitches, so starters rarely make it through all 7.
And, since we play DHs on Saturdays, Wes is used as the standard 1st reliever in one of the two games.
I don’t have a perfect record off hand, because the guy who does our book is awful at doing pitching, ie he doesn’t mark which pitchers came in when.
If I had to guess, I’d say Wes has 3 appearances, all in relief, 6 IP, 3h, 4bb, 10k, 1er

I remember trying to do similar things for my 9th grade team
when I was in HS. Only problem was we didn’t have anyone who could hit much more than they weighed.
