See some baseball at Safeco THIS WEEKEND!!!

Ok, so I know that some people may frown upon this, but I'm going to do some shameless self promotion.

If you can't wait until next Tuesday to come to Safeco and watch some ball, come out to the field this Saturday for the Mariner High School Classic.  Starting at 12:30pm, the Mercer Island Islanders will face off against Kennedy High School in Game 1 of a doubleheader.  Attendence to the game will be FREE, so you will finally be able to sit behind home plate and not give up your last paycheck do to so.  If you drive to the field, park in the garage for only $5!  When's the last time you could do that for a game?!?!  There will be some concessions available, to what extent though I'm not sure.  So, if you're in the area, stop on by and enjoy the game.

Not playing, but I'll be in the bullpen coaching

God I wish I was playing though. Last year when we did this all the coaches brought their gloves to play catch during warm-ups. I hate to point out the obvious, but it’s by far the best playing surface I’ve ever touched, and I’ve played at U.Miami, Tennessee and South Florida while playing at Fl. Atlantic, and on the Disney fields during high school

That's cool you get to be out there on the field and warming up.

Nothing beats a great stadium and field to play on, even if you don’t actually get to play the game, just toss around a ball.

Ack!`

I posted it on my blog – I get some West Seattle Blog traffic, so maybe that will help out attendance….I am VERY heavily debating going to this, what a fantastic opportunity. And also hot dogs! I have a Sounders game that I have to be available at 4.30 for, so my issue is with transportation and wanting to see Hyphen’s first start of the year….choices, choices….

the offseason sucks

I'll be

on the field, I’m on JV for Kennedy as a sophomore. We did this last year too, it was a lot of fun.

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up on this.

It was a nice way to kill an hour or so. In the first game one of the kids hit a bomb into the away bullpen. It was pretty impressive.

Yeah, I was coaching in the bullpen for the game

When the kid hit it, myself and the other 4 people out there at the time all said, in unison, “oh shit”. The kid really got a nice stroke on it, I was rather impressed.

Yep

It was Sean Narby, senior at Kennedy and CF. He’s got some college ball in him. He wears Edgar’s number, 11. Hell of a fielder too. Probably already better than Ibanez, haha. Him and the Catcher Kutz have some good tools.

I was really impressed with the hit

We had two of our guys get really close out there in Safeco, and just by where they hit the ball where they did, both would have been out in our home park. That extra 30-40 feet really makes a difference and just shows what kind of strength the guys playing at that level actually have in order to hit the ball that far with wood. It’s really impressive when you think about it.
