What's the verdict on Felix and the fastball?
Too much? Too little? Just right? I looked through the Gamecast log, but what did people who saw the game with their own eyes think?
He had some trouble locating it for a while
But he seemed to settle down later in the game.
I'll wait for the inevitable analysis from M/G/D/J/D/R etc.
But his velocity seemed to be down but the movement was there. He benefited from a wide strike zone against lefties I felt. He located the FB well in the outside ‘corner’ against them, down in the zone. Nice sink to his pitches overall.

Ankle tweaking... a good thing???
I dunno… call me crazy, but before he tweaked his ankle, seemed like he was doing the regular “establish the f-ball” routine and just trying to blow it by hitters w/o really localizing it well. From the ‘tweaking’ on, seemed liked when he threw the f’ ball, it was with less ‘umph’ and locating in better. Also seemed to mix in a lot of offspeed pitches…. especially against lefty’s. I was really happy about the latter results…. here’s to more of the same… long live the King!!!!
Beltre agrees with you.
Beltre told me in the onfield interview that he is going to whack Felix on the ankle before his next start.
I'm more like I am now than I've ever been.
From where I was sitting
Felix still threw too many fastballs… even in 0-2 counts and pressure situations… but the Twins’ offense kind of sucks and Felix is awesome, so he got away with it. When he missed with fastballs, it was rarely down the middle. He missed the glove pretty often with the off-speed stuff too, grooving some sliders, or hitting the low-inside corner instead of the low-outside corner… but no one made him pay.
Also Batista was warming up in the 8th, and then yielded to Morrow when it looked like Felix would finish the 8th and we would see a save opportunity. When the M’s tacked on 2 insurance runs, it was Batista time again. And he looked pretty sharp in the 9th. So… praise Felix all you want… but the same lineup looked feeble against Batista too.
Yeah.

So awesomeness
The first block of summer I will be home this year is May 15th-24th.
M’s home schedule during that time:
3 games vs BOS
4 games vs LAA
3 games vs SF
Wow, nice.
That’s the best homestand of the year, definitely. I’m setting my sights on Baltimore, Cleveland, and Tampa Bay
Not sure when i'm going to see a game at Safeco
but I will be in Oakland on Saturday for Felix Day, Season 5 Episode 2. I hope its as good as the premier.
I will be there both Sat and Sun.
I really don’t like the Coliseum
I am no longer in Spokane, but I think I'll keep the name anyway.
Eh, its not so bad.
You can usually move up to good seats without much hassle, and at least you’re not surrounded by Angels fans. Going into a stadium with that much exposed concrete does kind of create a weird retro flashback.
Watching this game was almost as awesome as actually being at the Nova-Pitt game.

Fucking sweet
Beltre’s D was good too.
I can’t believe the game was scored with no errors. I guess that turf really sucks.
Field turf

I thought it was still AstroTurf, to be honest, but I was wrong. Just in case anyone else wasn’t sure.
Field turf is awesome, BTW. I played some football on it it HS and have played tons of Ultimate on it up here in Seattle. Plays like grass and doesn’t get messy in the rain.

Yea he stood out as terrible. Even if he gets ahead in the count, he has no concept of waiting for a good
pitch to hit. When Joh singled, you would think the next batter would be thinking about moving the runner over or making the pitcher work a little. But of course he takes a wild hack at a pitch about a foot outside. Then the standard DP comes a few pitches later
All hail Franklin Gutierrez, heir apparent to the throne of Cameron!
Respect the sovereignty of center field!
Great start.
I can’t believe Saunders is still doing his thing for the Halos. Damn.
Still, this is going to be an entertaining race all season long.
Oh that's fun.
BBTN just introduced “Impact homerun of the night.” Gutierrez’s homerun had the highest impact on win expectancy at 20.7% (as charted above).

The Twins apparently did a throwback to their 1982 season (the first season of the Metrodome).
I don’t know what is up with the Nats, but the Rangers had awful uniforms.
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the red either

They also look like oddly shaped breasts
especially on the one. I hate bad design, especially when you make a hundreds of thousands of people look at it 162 times year.
