Jim Bowden apparently has a crystal ball
Washington is going to draft Strasburg," Bowden said, according to a transcript in the Washington Times. "The decision has already been made. It was made when I was there. That is who they are going to take. ... This is the best amateur pitcher since I was born. He is that good -- his delivery, his stuff, 100 miles an hour in the eighth inning, his makeup. He's got the entire package.
But Strasburg and his agent Scott Boras are reportedly asking for a $50 million dollar contract, which would shatter the draft record of $10.5 million given to Mark Prior in 2001. "You think they are going to sign him early? No, it's going to be Aug. 15 at 11:57 p.m.," Bowden said. "It will end at around $15 million, about under $35 million of what Scott [Boras] wants, but that is where it ends up. It will be record-breaking, and he will be pitching in the big leagues in September. He is that good."$50 Million? Holy crap.

He was never going to work in baseball again anyway
But still, this is pretty bush league.
Don't know if the news is, but the article isn't.

You can't hide from the omnipresent eye.
Nothing's a sure thing
And It seems like the things people are positive about often prove to be wrong
I applaud your faith in humanity
I often tend to believe people are wrong a good portion of the time, regardless of whether they know it or not. Then again, I could be wrong about that.
Also, Matthew's faith in humanity?
That’s uh…yeah.

$50 million for a draft pick is still absurd.

This will change baseball as we know it.
I’m quite relieved that the dominance of big-money teams with unlimited scouting and amateur acquisition budgets will finally come to an end.

Good. The way things are now sucks.

Is there any history of backdoor dealings with the draft?
Say the M’s trade the N’s someone to encourage them to pass on Strasburg?
Has anyone heard about something like this happening before?
What about frontdoor dealings?
Say the M’s go to Nationals Park and throw money at them, publicly begging them to pass on Strasburg?
...and now I'm here
And it would never happen because Washington would just take Strasburg anyway
and the M’s would have absolutely no recourse

Silva to the Nationals for a StrasburgTBNL
...and now I'm here
"Secrets" with Jim Bowden
Should he be allowed to get away with this? I agree with Dave Cameron, this is a pretty shitty thing for him to do.
Hopefully this does not turn into Matt Harrington part 2
It would be terrible to see his arm wasted in independent ball or college for another year.

Bowden still doesn't know crap
He’d probably convert Strasburg to a left handed batting toolsy outfielder.
Plus, he is wrong about how much Stras will sign for. Scott Boras is a lot smarter than Jim Bowden, and he will never sign for 15 million. He has the golden goose in his barn, and he isn’t going to sell it for kibble. Stras has Nolan Ryan like skill. Boras will have a floor price of around 30 million dollars. If Stras should decide not to sign, he will be able to get 15 million for him next year, at a minimum. Stras is a junior, he can go back and play at San Diego State, and just walk away from the Nationals. Strasburg doesn’t need to go to the independent leagues and I don’t think that Boras will be willing to negotiate much on Strasburg’s price.

No, different pick.
Whoever the Nats take with their comp pick (10th) has them by the balls because if they fail to sign that pick, they do not get futher compensation.
