1995 ALDS Game 5 on iTunes. Also, a request.
Apologies if this is already well-known. I'd only just discovered it.
So I've held onto my vcr for the last decade, pretty much exclusively so that I could watch my crappy tape of Game 5 of the 1995 ALDS on drunk lonely nights. On a whim, I discovered that the game is archived and available on iTunes for $1.99. The quality's not much better than vhs, but at least I can toss my player finally.
A couple questions: does anyone know where I can find archives of the rest of the ALDS plus of the one-game playoff vs. the Angels? Also, does anyone know where I can find audio of Neihaus' call of the final game? If anyone has the audio of Neihaus' play by play, I'd be willing to edit the audio and video together as a sort of bootleg present to LLers.

Very cool.
Three questions.
1. How big is the iTunes file? It says “Size Unavailable” when I clicked “get info” for it.
2. I take if that Dave Neihaus is not the announcer in the iTunes version. Do you have the audio of Neihaus on your crappy tape? I have no idea how to put VCR audio onto a computer. I’m just curious.
3. Have you seen that this game is supposedly available on MLB.com’s “Baseball’s Best” selected archive?
Funny thing, I clicked on that (I have MLB.tv premium), and I got this message:
Our data indicates that as a result of blackout restrictions, you are blocked from watching the game that you selected. If you think you have been blacked out in error, please complete and submit the form below so that we may verify your data. If you are eligible for the game you chose, you will be granted access. Your credit card information is needed for address verification purposes only. A temporary $1.00 authorization hold will be placed on your credit card, which will subsequently expire. You will not incur a charge for this authorization hold.
Then I got a request for me to contact MLB.tv support if they thought I had gotten the blackout message in error. I don’t really care enough about this if Neihaus isn’t doing the announcing (which he’s not), so I’m not gonna bother trying to figure this out. But it was interesting.
(I’m not expecting you to answer question #3, by the way, Sammy. It’s just for everyone’s reference).

If it's not Dave calling the game, then what's the use?
I will smash your face into a jelly.

It's possible that Game 5 was one of the games
that the Mariners released on cassette tape from that season. I think I have one of the one-game playoff w/the Angels somewhere… I’ll see if I can dig it up to find out if they had one for Game 5.

Hmm... I'll keep looking, but I think I might be wrong.
I did find an audio cassette called “1995: A Season to Remember,” which was apparently given out to the “McDonald’s Junior Mariners Club.” It is unopened. I am pretty sure we have another one somewhere in this house, and I’ll take a look around for it as soon as I feel less dead.

It's been on MLB.com's baseballs best section for several months as well.
I don’t think you can download it, but it has Dave’s call and it’s pretty good quality. If you have an MLB.tv subscription you can watch it for free. I think, at least. That’s how it was last year, but they’ve changed a lot of stuff since though so don’t take my word as gospel.
