Need a M's baseball fix tonight? R's R's R's!

If you're looking for some baseball, the baby M's are playing tonight, game's on in about 10 minutes!  Of course, it's probably too late for y'all to head down to Cheney to catch the game in person -- I actually was considering going myself until my kid had a meltdown (GRR!).

Listen to the über-awesome Mike Curto call the game right here.  Garrett "Walk This Way!" Olson is starting for the R's and Chad Reineke is starting for the baby A's.  Shelton's on 3rd and both LaHair and Morse are in the OF - my guess is that it won't be a very well-defended game.  Clement's behind the dish, and Carp's batting 5th.  Should be an interesting game for the 8-3 Rainiers...

I love you, Mike Morse...

But you’re just not an outfielder…

I like that an organization that has clearly put a premium on D in Safeco

can also field an almost unimaginably bad outfield in Cheney.

With a flyball pitcher on the mound.

To be fair...

Not having Mike Wilson (okay, um, well, at least he’s been an outfielder for his minor league career) and Mike Saunders does sorta put the R’s in a bind.

I still don’t get why they want to give Morse innings in the OF. I know they want Shelton in there and have experimented with him at third, but that’s where Morse should be getting reps when Tui’s DH’ing…

Yeah, and they went out and got Freddy Guzman,

and the ‘normal’ line-up of Redman in a corner, Guzman in CF plus (don’t look) in the other corner isn’t that bad at all.

Well, Morse was at 3B yesterday… seriously, it’s sort of nice that he gets to play RF. I think another org would’ve let him go by now.

Wilson's ankle is twisted.

Quick question...

Why does FSN show Portland Beavers’ games and not Tacoma’s? You’d think the Rainiers would go hand-in-hand with the M’s.

I'd say the Puget Sound region has a baseball team that is televised which is the Mariners

Whereas the Portland area has a baseball team that is televised which is the Beavers

I think it’s got more to do with serving multiple markets then anything

Because there's no media pits in Cheney?

They had to jury-rig an elevated platform in CF to get the in-game big screen camera there. I’m not sure if they’re renting or buying the elevated platform rig to get a camera up there, but lets just say the camera angles really suck at Cheney. I know this first hand :-)

ding ding ding!

Cheney is really struggling to get rudimentary highlights on the jumbotron; they’re years away from being able to televise games (though apparently you can watch the highlights on Comcast…has anyone tried to do this? I was getting sick trying to follow the ‘highlights’ yesterday in the park).

Just some other random minor league notes

Josh Fields (tonight): 1 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K’s… that’s three good outing in a row

Juan Ramirez (still in progress): 4 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K’s (6 GO, 2 FO)

Michael Pineda (last night): 7 IP, 6 hits, 3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K’s (10 GO, 3 FO)

I just realized...

that if Delgado is ever called up, I can do a parody of Tom Waits’ “Jesus Gonna Be Here”.

Which would be something, because I’ve yet to have an opportunity to use the “Big in Japan” one.

Petagine comes and goes and 'Big in Japan' is STILL unused in your pocket?

Jebus, what were you waiting for? Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good, Ivy Leaguer. Yes, I force-fit my achewood reference while you were waiting for a game recap that featured cats AND robots.

Nice Tom Waits reference though – you know everyone and their mother is going to be doing some sort of ‘Jesus Take the Wheel’ parody when Delgado comes in for a high-leverage situation. Way to take the high road.

It had to have been post-Petagine...

I think I had the idea in 2007, otherwise I really would have no excuse. It’s all written down, just not on my laptop, unfortunately. All I can remember is “I got the stitches, but not the glove”. I might just have to make up another one, just in case.

Also, Achewood references? Damn. I wonder if Dave’s going to let us get away with stuff like that when we do the Future Forty stuff. I think G and I managed to work in a few Evil Dead references when he and I did a season review on Sportspot a few years back… those were the days.
