Montero will not be charged
Since we spent a Fanpost talking about allegations of sexual assault against Fredy Montero, I figure it's only fair that we give equal coverage to the fact that the King County prosecutor has found insufficient evidence to charge him.
King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg has decided not to file criminal charges against Seattle Sounders soccer star Fredy Montero, citing insufficient evidence to support a claim by a 23-year-old Eastside woman that Montero had raped her.
Figured it was worth a mention, just to be fair to the kid and his repuation.

Totally fair.
Glad to know he won’t be charged.

As with Pete Townshend, people will probably call him a rapist all his life anyway.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

King County prosecutors have been pretty tough on domestic violence,
so Montero not being charged hopefully won’t haunt him.

The story really didn't blow up beyond a local level, so his reputation will probably be fine
Which is extremely good, obviously. The Sounders really did not need a massive dose of negative publicity to wreck their great start on and off the pitch. Now they can focus on going down to LA and kicking the shit out of Chivas.

I saw this news on the national Fox Sports Report or whatever the hell that shitty canadian soccer show is called.
I guess, it never really blew up beyond the niche/MLS-fan level.

I think it's called LET'S ALL SHOUT ABOUT SOCCER FOR 30 MINUTES
I hate Fox Soccer. And the fact that they have the Champions League next year really sucks.

I don't *hate* FSC. They televise the EPL, and for that alone, I respect them.
I miss a lot of the stuff they’ve lost to Setanta and others, but what’re you gonna do.
I DO think it’s pretty ridiculous that they use what really appears to be a camcorder’d ‘show’ out of winnipeg or whatever as their continental soccer news show.
I’m cautiously optimistic about them televising the CL if only because they might conceivably show more games; perhaps the ones you can only watch now if you have ESPN-Deportes? On the other hand, their picture quality is abysmal compared to standard-def ESPN, so there’s that…..

I should clarify
I don’t hate FSC, I just hate the American announcers they use. I sincerely hope they’ll stick with the default overseas audio feed for the CL rather than using their own “talent” because those guys are AWFUL. And yeah, the lack of HD or even a good SD quality picture is a bad thing.

Supposedly they're looking into HD for next year sometime
Which is necessary, because their current quality sucks. Now if they could just get rid of that dial tone thing that plays all the time…

And speaking of soccer
Today’s the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough. If you’ve ever been to a sporting event, ever been part of a tribe of sports fans, you knew the 94 who died that day (and two who died later) – they’re just like you. Take a minute and remember. If you’re not familiar with the event, here’s a couple links for background (one is a blatant self-link and for that I apologize).

It took me 5 months to figure out those were soccer uniforms.

I know. Whatever MLB's sins of advertisement,
at least their uniforms let you know what the team’s name is.
