LL SoCal 2009, Part I
Alright all, since quite a few of us live in Southern California full time, who's up for a meetup next Saturday Sunday for the game against the hated Angels?
Not sure what there is to do around the stadium (I know there's a few bars, but given that it's Anaheim, it's a fair bet they suck), but we could meet up, have a few beers, get abender the Speedway Stout he can't find, and watch the M's smoke the Angels.
I don't have tickets yet, I'd imagine they won't be too expensive, even if we get them as a group for everyone who doesn't have them.
EDITED: Sounds like Jeff is going to go Sunday, not Saturday, so how does Sunday sound instead? We can still do group tickets, and maybe we can meet up before/after for lunch/drinks. Let me know.

Last time I talked to Jeff, it sounded like we were going to try and do a few series this year
Anaheim, LAD and San Diego are all possibilities

nice...
if i end up staying in LA after school I will definitely be in

Well shit, how can I say no now?
Yeah, count me in. I’m going to be out of town for the Padres series anyway, which blows, but hey, Bahamas. (Cry for me.) So yeah, this is my shot to see the M’s this year. Let’s do it.
Although the link is dead this is still mean.

The intent was clear, that it would be awesome if RC came down for a game
you can be invited too!

Oh one day I will, sb. One day I will.
If that means I have to paddle my ass down there in a kayak or a canoe I will find a way.
NOLA will paddle and you can sit back and read Twilight

Well, other than the ridiculously out of place snowy montage, that movie wasn't that bad.

There probably would have been less confusion if you'd been replying to the Twilight comment
Also why the hell would you actually watch that movie?
I was in Canada and had nothing to do, and there were girls there.

I have tickets to the Saturday game already
as mentioned before. A meet up would be awesome though.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
In as well...
but don’t know how many will be in my group as of right now.
I definitely think we should plan for a pre/post game get-together though. As a heads up to everybody here, there’s an official meetup group for Seahawks fans in LA at this bar in Culver City. We’re having a draft-day party there on the same day, and it’ll be a good place to spend the day pre-M’s game. Details on the meetup HERE if interested.
But I’ll be there, just not sure how the tix situation will work out quite yet.
Just as an FYI, I think I can only do a meetup after the game on Sat
I’m going to the UCLA spring game the same day, and not sure when I’ll get to the ballpark (should be safely before first pitch, but too late to do anything substantial pregame)
I'm probably going to catch the train, so I'll probably show up around the same time.
I’m down to buy tickets together, though. (Ms. Teej isn’t going to make this one.)
All who want tickets - let me know so I can get a bunch
right now I’m thinking Sections 413-425, 3rd level right behind home plate. Should run about $25/ticket. I think we’ve got four so far, me, Bender, Teej, chinn.
Also, suggest potential meetup places before/after the game
Stubhub has them cheaper, FYI.
Did a quick search and found 4 Lower View MVP in 425 for $17 each, plus the small fee since it’s instant delivery. The regular view seats aren’t bad, either. Just make sure if you go for the cheaper ones, to get higher than row E so your view is above everyone walking in the aisle.

Awww, crap
really, $17? I was checking Stubhub and $20-25 was the lowest they had yesterday =(

Couple options for you guys...
Throwbacks Sports bar and grill: 1759 S. Claudina Way Anaheim, CA 92805
seems to be the “official bar” with Rex Hudler doing a pre-game show there on Thursdays I think. They have a shuttle that transports fans from the bar to the game and back!!
OC Sports Grill: 450 N. State College Blvd Orange, CA 92868
Might be the closest.
Hooters: It’s a Hooters. I’ve never been to any of the three.
My Personal Favorite: In the Back seat of my 2003 Honda Element with a 6 Pack of Lost Coast’s Great White and 4 tacos from Del Taco.
by MidwayCityLivestock on Apr 17, 2009 1:40 PM PDT reply actions
Ooooh and for some super authentico street tacos:
Taqueria Mexico: 108 W Katella Ave # C, Orange, CA 92867. If they’ve got the Al Pastor on the spit, I would strongly suggest it.
It’s not quite Cactus in Hollywood, but it’s good!

Still thinking View MVP or whatever the hell they call the 3rd deck seats right behind home plate.

Mostly because I'm lying.
She couldn’t do Saturday, so we counted her out, but now that we’re going Sunday she’s in. She’ll be in L.A. anyway.
Considering making it three.
But with the state the team is in, not sure I want to travel 1000 miles to see my team get thumped at home in the company of a bunch of Mariners fans.

You're gonna have to hurry to make it three
gonna buy the tickets tonight, I think.
But do come!
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions
All right we are in.
This is gonna be an expensive weekend for me, ha.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Are you buying for Sunday?
I’ve already got tickets for Saturday but I could probably swing Sunday too. Let me double check with my GF first to be sure though.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
So Chinn can't make it Sunday, which puts us down to eight
which is good because eight is a more manageable ticket number than nine and sucks because GAHHHH no Chinn =(
Are you guys OK with sitting in the same section but different parts? I’m having trouble finding eight tickets together in a reasonable section at a reasonable price
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 9:08 PM PDT up reply actions
Whatever works.
Plus that way we can pretend that we don’t know each other and that the Mariner-fan infusion is more widespread than it really is.
Oh, and no Chinn BOOO!
That's what I'm figuring
plus I can get pretty decent seats for ~$15/head if we split up 4 and 4.
You want me to bring you some Speedway? The Escondido BevMo! was out, but last time I was at the Temecula one a few days ago, they had at least ten bottles or so.
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 9:13 PM PDT up reply actions
That would be absolutely fantastic if you are headed there anyway at some point this week.
Otherwise, I’ll just order it ahead of time from the BevMo! that’s like 5 miles from me.
Well the BevMo! is like two miles from my house and I go there at least once a week anyway
I’ll pick you up a couple bottles
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 10:02 PM PDT up reply actions
Okay, if we split up 4 and 4, it will be $214 for tickets split eight ways, which works out to... 26.50 per person
the seats would be section 420, rows F and G. Let me know how this sounds and I’ll buy them.
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 10:04 PM PDT up reply actions
Last time I went to a Sunday game and sat up in the 300 level, it was actually pretty full.
But either way, we can just yell at one another from 30 feet away about the different dirty things we would do to Franklin Gutierrez if given the opportunity.
This sounds lovely
me, bender and three couples, two of whom have Angels fans in them. You and Ms. Teej are sitting with us
by seattlebruin on Apr 20, 2009 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Also, it hilariously turns out that nine is an easier ticket number in this case than eight, go figure
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 9:47 AM PDT up reply actions
Retardedly, the people with five tickets, one will sell in group of 1,2,3, or 5 only
and the other will sell as 5 only (both groups of five tickets have a nearby group of four tickets)
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 10:19 AM PDT up reply actions
It makes sense actually.
You are going to be hard pressed to sell 1 lone ticket, and selling off a group of 4 would leave the seller with that loner. Selling 1, 2, or 3 still leaves a usable pair or more, and selling 5 is obviously the optimal choice.
I just think that the most likely scenario is people buy two pairs of two
and leave you with the loner anyway. The real question is how the hell the guy ended up with five tickets in the first place
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 10:32 AM PDT up reply actions
As soon as the person buys the first pair
it would probably restrict future sales of the group of three to 1 or 3. I’ve gotten screwed on that before.
angels fan in seattle
Yeah, that's why I didn't just try and buy a pair twice in a row
though I thought about doing that and eating the last ticket if I couldn’t re-sell it. Oh well, I think we’re going to be close enough anyway
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions
Probably don't want to leave themselves with one ticket.
That’s a tough sell. I’ll blame this on Chinn.
Yeah, but I'd rather sell four tickets and eat one then have everyone looking for four tickets look at it and go "uh... no thanks"
Anyway, I just bought the tickets – it’ll be $28/person, the tickets are in sections 419 and 420 close rows, and from what I remember of Angel Stadium, the section 420 seats are right on the 420/419 border, and I’ll e-mail them to everyone soon as I get em
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 10:31 AM PDT up reply actions
OK, got the first four instantly, still waiting on the last four to get confirmed
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions
Of course
figure we’ll meetup for lunch somewhere near the stadium. Unfortunately the area doesn’t have quite the same charm and bars of Gaslamp, but MidwayCityLivestock suggested a few places, and we could do some digging on our own, too
by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2009 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions
I'm not 100% sure yet, but I think I'm taking the train.
So the closer the better for me, since the train station is pretty much in the stadium parking lot.
I can show up at 9 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. I’ll wait and see what the plans are before buying a ticket.
Presumably Old Town
trolley —> train —> game —> train —> trolley
by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 21, 2009 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Actually, it looks like there are no morning trains out of Old Town.
There’s a 7:05 and a 9:30 out of Downtown (Kettner St.). You can also catch both of them about a half-hour later in Solana Beach (not San Marcos; my bad), where parking is free. It’s also $6 cheaper each way.
If people are going to meet early, I can catch that early train. If not, I’ll catch the later one out of Solana Beach and we can hang after the game.
I'm a bit of a late riser, so I have a feeling I'm not going to show up until about an hour before game time.
Not that everyone needs to plan around me, but if there are pregame festivities, my lady and I will probably just show up for a few minutes before we have to start heading to the stadium.
Getting to the train station before 7:30 on a Sunday would be a tough task.
Yeah, if we're train-ing I don't know how wild we're going to be about showing up early
by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 21, 2009 11:50 PM PDT up reply actions
Considering I'll be going to back to back games
and driving all the way from the West side, I don’t know if I’d be up for much pre game. Post game should be fine.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
I really regret having to cancel at the last moment.
You have no idea how much my heart sank when I got called in the middle of Saturday’s game and found out the bad news.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Looks like it
Ironically almost my entire row on Saturday was Mariner’s fan.
My section also included the biggest asshole I’ve seen at a game to date. He was your typical, showy loud drunk dude. Which is whatever but in the 8th inning when Branyan hit a foul ball to our section it bounced off another guy’s hands, hit a little girl in the face, and then the drunk loud dude got it.
He showed off to the entire crowd that he got it, and did not bother to ever check on the little girl (who was still crying her ass off when the game ended).
Oh and this dude was there with what looked like his wife and kids too.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
