Shelton, Olson ----> Tacoma, Messenger Shot
Looks like the rumors were true, the team picked Sweeney for his potential clubhouse contributions and a source informs me that he also made them a hot batch of cookies and ran into a burning building to save their puppy, then tried give all the credit to the fire department.
Sucks for Shelton after the monster spring he's put up but at least he'll be available in Tacoma and it's likely we'll be seeing him sometime this season.
Randy Messenger was also optioned to AAA, so any fears that he might somehow sneak his way onto the roster can be put to rest.
The Twins took Jose Lugo back as well, so he's gone.
Other Moves: Garrett Olson was also sent to Tacoma, Mike Morse was outrighted but cleared waivers and was resigned, and Cesar Jimenez was placed on the 15 day DL.

not to mention tie-buying.

Sweeney, “Dude, come on you got to do it. I am going to have to go to Dillards and buy about 20 ties for guys. How bout a bow tie Jr? We can wear them with sweaters, do the Carlton thing!”

I'd pay money to watch Jr. do the Carlton dance

Morse cleared waivers too, which is hilarious

Wow
I know Morse is not the greatest defensive player in the world but I can’t believe he cleared waivers. I thought for sure he was gone. Good news Shelton is staying around too.

Morse is pretty useless but I figured there was a chance someone would take him

Everyone wants a guy that plays horrible defense, can't hit for power and doesn't run well.

That gif is simultaneously hilarious and incredibly depressing

That was one of the few M's games I had a chance to see on TV during my time in Chicago.
I’m glad I saw that play.

I didn't see anyone scooping Vidro up when we released him,
but your point is well taken.

That's actually kind of surprising.
But yes, hilarious.

Dammit.
Why couldn’t someone claim him so we don’t have to listen to people wanting him to be an everyday player anymore? Morse is like the new Bloomquist.

Morse is way worse than Willie
at least Willie could play a little defense

Beat me to it
I thought for sure there was a team crazy enough to take Morse. I would be suprised though if Morse sticks around for long.

'Mike Morse was outrighted but cleared waivers and was resigned'
I hate it when they get resigned. You’re a professional! Have a better attitude.

Sent Lugo back to the Indians, so no rule 5 guy sucking up bench time.
by Kermit. on Apr 1, 2009 1:28 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah the Twins wanted him =\
Sad, I wish we could hung onto him.
by OlSalty on Apr 1, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Twins! Yes, sorry bout that. Dave was going down a list, I switched up some of the particulars
I’ve always wanted one of those Rule 5 guys to turn into something, just because.

That's the guy I was trying to remember.
I swear I can still see the shiny spot on the bench from his ass.

Rowland-Smith!!
I think he was a rule 5 guy.
by MFAN on Apr 1, 2009 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
But the Twins took him in the Rule 5 draft, then gave him back to us,
so that’s probably what you’re thinking of.
by Teej on Apr 1, 2009 2:01 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ahh that was it.
I knew he had some sort of tie to the rule 5 draft.

It's repayment for them taking RRS back in 2005 and returning him

Zduriencik on the radio talking to Dave just said he's either cleared waivers and the M's have 72 hrs to negotiate a trade to keep him.
Or he’s still in the process of clearing waivers, it wasn’t quite clear exactly where he’s at in the process things.

Meh See if Sweeny has anything and if he doesn't deep six him and bring up Shelton.

Or if that doesn't work bring up Clement
Man our minor leagues are stacked.

Righty pinch hitter in an NL park is about it
But enough of those guys can also play defense to not justify carrying Morse.
He must really wish he were left handed

and a backup closer should Morrow have a set back

We need Randy Messenger like Randy Messenger needs another prescription for Rohypnol.

I'd rather see a team without Messenger then a team without Morse
But that’s like asking me if I’d rather have a brand new Ford Taurus or a brand new Mercury Sable

For all you Jakubauskas fans, looks like he has an outside shot at making the roster too
If RRS isn’t totally healthy.
by OlSalty on Apr 1, 2009 1:39 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Looks like he has a real good chance to make it.
He might even be in the rotation since we don’t have any lefties in the bullpen and Rowland-Smith may have to fill that void.
