MLB jersey sizes
I'm thinking about dropping too much money on a Felix Venezuela WBC jersey, because I think they look really sharp, and I've been needing a jersey for a while now (hopefully they don't get knocked out and he gets at least another outing, but anyway).
This is the one at which I'm looking; however, I'm a little distressed about the size options. Looking at this sizing chart, based on my dress shirt/pant size measurements I should probably be a medium, but in regular t-shirts I'm usually a large/XL depending on the fit. These things always look huge, so I'm wondering if the sizes just run a little big. Any experiences from you guys that have bought the MLB replica jerseys in the past would be great. Thanks!

In jerseys, I typically wear about a 40 in authentics
I can get away wearing most medium T-shirts, sometimes I have to move up to a large. I bought a BP jersey off ebay this last year and medium fits me great.
I don’t know if that helps or not.
I would say to go with an M’s Felix jersey instead of the Venezuela WBC though, unless you have an attachment to the country. As much as I like the font they used (Deftone Stylus. Look it up), I feel like the baseball jersey is a terrible application of it. That font belongs on the back of one of my bowling shirts and for shorter words only.
But that’s just me being a design snob.

Yeah
for some reason I’m really into the WBC this year after not really paying any attention in ‘06, and I’m pulling for V due to the 4 Mariners. I don’t have any other attachment to them. I guess I like being different though, which is why I haven’t bought any jersey’s yet. If I did an Ms jersey I would probably do Rowland-Smith.
Another question, are the authentics really worth twice the price of the replicas? I could afford the authentic if I really wanted to…but I’m naturally cheap…

Authentic is better quality
In that it’s more durable, holds up better over time. So if you plan to wear the jersey on a regular basis and wash it semi-frequently, authentic is going to pay for itself in terms of its durability. The fabric’s also a little thicker (IIRC), which is nice for the first and last month of a chilly Seattle season.
As for sizing, I’m probably about the same as Two Rs and Two Ls – usually get away with medium, occasionally need to upsize to large for T-Shirts. I’m 6-2/200 and I go with large jerseys for a couple of reasons:
-Wear them over the top of other shirts or even a light jacket/sweatshirt no prob
-Don’t like the snug fit for a jersey when I try on medium
-Little extra length is a plus with my height
Anyway, that might give you at least some kind of benchmark to work with. Hope it helps…

Huh
Looks like the WBC jerseys actually have easily noticeable differences between the replicas and the authentics, notably the replica Venezuelas don’t have a number on the front, and the writing on the front is in a straight line.

I thought this wold be about who wore the biggest jersey in the MLB.

I've been wondering this as well
I think I want to drop money on a Felix replica M’s jersey…

I should mention
I wear a large usually in tshirts, depending upon the brand. I’m about 5’8"/5’9" and around 200lbs (yes I am trying to lose weight)

I've been looking at getting a jersey as well
I’m quite short, though, and don’t want to be swimming in the damn thing. I wear a size medium shirt, so what size jersey should I shoot for?

I should probably just go home right now, and look at the size on mine.
right?

Not a bad idea, really

Probably gonna be going into the Small size of jerseys, since they're so big. I had to get a small.
Or you could swallow your pride and check the children’s section. Me, I’d rather get a small, even if it fits worse.

If you can fit into a kids though, they're markedly cheaper.
I saved something like $50 by buying a Kids 16 sized All Blacks kit instead of an Adults small. Exact same jersey and the difference in fit was almost too slight to tell.

Pride doesn't exist when buying sports jerseys
I have a Seahawks Julian Peterson jersey, size of Youth XL, that fits me like a baggy T-Shirt. It’s perfect

And it was $35 cheaper than an adult jersey
There are benefits to being short

Yes, yes there are.

Ive been thinking about getting a Felix authentic jersey too.
Can’t decide between the home jersey or the alternative jersey.

In a perfect world I like to get the older style alternate
that doesn’t have numbers on the front.
White dirties too easily.

I'd like to get an alternate
but the online store doesn’t seem to have them for replica jersey’s, unless I’m missing something.

I have two authentics...
I’m about your size (5’11" 190) and I have authentic Alternate, and Road. The Road is a 40, and it’s a little small, but it still fits. The Alt. is a 44 and fits great. I’d either recommend a 44, or going down to a 42 at the smallest.

Another idea
If you’re able to get to a M’s Team Store (or, for that matter, any sporting goods store that carries jersies) you could just try on the different sizes.
Again, keep in mind that you may want to layer it over a jacket or sweatshirt when it’s colder out, so if you’re just wearing a t-shirt when you go in don’t buy one that’s too snug.

I haven't found a store in my area that sells jersey's
I guess I’ll try something on at either the Dodgers or Angels team stores, I just kind of want to get one before I go to the first M’s series.
Meh after looking at my bank account today I’ll hold out awhile.

Yeah
This is probably the best idea. Based on the anecdotal evidence in this thread, I should probably roll with a 44. I’m 6’0" and pushing 220 at the moment, but that’s only because I’ve been lazy the last 3 months (usually I’m around 200). Damn metabolism…

Excellent
Walked down to the Ms team store on 4th and tried on a few authentic jerseys. 48 it is for me.

I'm a fan of the giveaway t-shirts, myself.
thus, I can sometimes be found proclaiming that my dad is No. 1.

I think I wore out every M's give away shirt I ever got
I do still have a couple of Edgar Martinez bats from bat night. I can’t believe they used to give away wood bats to kids.
I think I may have a Griffey glove from glove night, man I remember being so excited for that game only to be disappointed that the glove was so cheap and plasticky. I was so naive as a child.

I actually got one of those wood bats
I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy. and to top it off, it had Dan Wilson’s signature painted on it. I later managed to get his real autograph right next to the painted one. One of the high points of my childhood, really.

They don't do bat night anymore?
I remember actually playing homerun derby with those bats with my friends (until it cracked, of course). Then, in 2001, I was too old to receive a bat on the night they were giving them out, but my sister got one and I have it in my room. I bring it out and swing it around every now and then.

I still have my A-Rod
“We are on a mission, Sir” shirt from… What, 97?
Got drunk and pissed off a couple years ago and shattered my Edgar bat… When I woke up with a gash in my hand and remembered where it was from, I was even more pissed. Yeah, crazy that they used to give those away…

Eh...
It was either knock my brother out or go vent my frustration on an inanimate object. I only wish I’d found one that wasn’t as sentimentally valuable.
“Favorite” plastic pirate sword… As in they come in more than one style? I’ve got two… my plastic one and my bad-ass real one with a skull etched into the hilt.

I have a 52!
And I can wear a sweater and sweatshirt under it (which is why I got it so big to begin with). This does not help you, but I felt like sharing, because I heart my jersey.

I got an authentic Felix rookie jersey
in a 48 inch (what I wore in a dress jacket in my Army uniform). It’s a little snugger than I think it ought to be. Yeah, I put on wight after I got out, but not all that much. So, if you were going with an MLB authentic, I’d go a tad bit bigger than you think you need, unless you never plan on buttoning it.
