My Dream of Dualing Hyphens is Over! :-(

I got the news yesterday via text message from Churchill and I waited to say something until he had the info posted on Prospect Insider. Well, he just posted the news today that first sunk my heart last night:

Austin Bibens-Dirkx has been released.

I've yet to understand why, really, but if there's one player who could take my emotional reins away from George Sherrill as the under-the-radar type to cheer for irrationally, it was Austin.

I first saw Austin a couple weeks after he was drafted as he filled in some innings in a depleted Tacoma bullpen on his way to A-ball.  I was on my way out of the stadium at the time (was with the family and our son was basically tired), but decided to stay for one of the two innings he pitched.  After he came in and had 5 Ks with 1 BB and 2 hits over 2 innings, I decided the Free Austin! campaign would begin.

Semi-video evidence of his pitching motion long before this organization effed it up so much that it hurt his arm.

And here's a still:

This wasn't what I meant by "FREE AUSTIN BIBENS-DIRKX!!!"

I went to high school and became good friends with AB-D

Back then, he was just AD.

I’m sad to see him released on both a personal and a professional level.

Good luck, Austin; I hope you land on your feet.

I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

I'm gonna miss him,

but I think he’s someone that another org will pick up.

Damn it.

This could have been the first guy from my school who made the Majors since Tom Lampkin and Bill Krueger, but nope, we screwed him up.

There are no good individual basketball statistics.

I don't think anyone from my high school has ever made the pros in any sport.

My high school's got a few.

That’s what happens when you have a sports family go through… With 5 kids.

Travis Lee and Jared Sandberg are the only ones from mine.

I remember when people thought Mike Fey was going to be an NBA star. Whoops.

    * Adam Kasper — Record Exec.
    * Burke Kenny — Winner at the 2007 World Beard and Moustache Championships
    * Dr.Gordon Freeman — World renown physicist
    * Jared Sandberg — Professional Baseball Player

My HS is so notable that it's notable alum isn't even listed in Wiki...

My biased opinion:

  • Chad Eaton – NFL player
  • Mimi Jung – King 5 TV Anchor
  • Scott Krippayne – CCM recording artist and songwriter
  • Nick Harmer – Death Cab for Cutie bassist

There are probably several more…

Oh, wait Wiki does list: “Kevin Scott – Dallas Cowboys (Stanford Cardinal) Mark Weekly – Was the the starting QB on 2 PLU National Championship Teams”

—Tim Lincecum – I’m sure everybody knows who this is

—Sean Kinney – Drummer for Alice in Chains

The Free Man attended your high school?

I wish I could lay claim to something as cool as that.

"Dualing" Hyphens...

I’m so effed up.

“Dual Dueling Hyphens…”

There.

See I thought you did that on purpose,

Because if they were both on the same team then there would be “dual” hyphens. I thought it was a play on words

I do make up sentence-contraction words all the time...

“Dualing” = “dual dueling”

Doesn't this increase those chances?

They couldn’t very well duel while on the same team, yeah?

...and now I'm here
