The 2009 "Buy stuff for the mods" fund drive
As I mentioned a few days ago, I think it'd be a fine idea to raise money for the mods to cover their mlb.tv subscriptions for the coming season, in gratitude for all the hard work that they avoid do.
If you agree, give some money - doesn't matter how much, but if you appreciate the work Jeff, Matthew, and Graham do 'round these parts this is an excellent way to show it.
Three MLB.tv premium subscriptions are $330. I set up a Pledgie thing to handle the donations - since I'm dumb at the internets, all the pledges will go to me and once the fundraising period is over, I will send all money raised to Jeff and he can divvy it up. If there's more than $330 in the Pledgie thing, I'll leave it up to Jeff to decide what to do with the money. I set up the Pledgie because I really like saying the word Pledgie to close on Monday, March 9, so you have just under a week to donate - $330 should take no time at all. If you want to donate, here's the place to do it.
UPDATE: As noted in the comments, if you're unable to/uncomfortable with using PayPal (Pledgie uses PayPal as its donation engine) send me an email (ngtfblog at gmail dot com) and I will get you a physical address where you can send a check.
UPDATE 3/5: We have hit the magic $330 mark. Thanks everybody.
UPDATE 3/9: Each mod got mailed a shiny new check for $125 today - the total raised was $375. Y'all are awesome.

Is this like a PBS pledge drive?
How much do I have to donate to get an LL coffee mug?

Indeed.
If they had offered Jeff more than $50, perhaps they could have made use of his excellent analytical services and avoided such costly errors as Carlos Silva and not trading Jarrod Washburn.

I think he was referring to the Ms, not the M's

I think he was being snarky.
Don’t mind him.

If only I had comprehended your intended meaning, I could have avoided such an embarrassing mix up.
I have shamed my ancestors.

This may not be as great a gift as it seems
Besides, $50 doesn’t divide evenly to 3

How about donating a game with Jeff?
Like basically two tickets to an M’s game with the winning bidder and Jeff. Then maybe a separate one for all three of the mods.

If you win the game with Jeff you have to fly him to Seattle
or fly yourself to San Diego

Well, I wasted my access last time, so whatever.

Thanks for putting this together, Paul.
And, of course, hooray for The Triumvirate. May your hard work get you jobs where you won’t have to deal with us.

J/M/G,
Thank you.
Thank you for helping me learn so much about baseball in such a short amount of time.
Thank you for producing a substantial amount of intelligent and insightful content that can’t be found elsewhere.
And finally, thank you for nurturing one of the best communities anywhere on the internet.

PayPal/pledgie shenanigans?
Hey folks,
My PayPal recently got compromised and one of the last things I did with it was pay for the USSM/LL event through pledgie. I am in no way trying to place blame here, but am curious whether or not anyone else had a similar thing happen? I lost a total of $173 out of my checking account before PayPal put the lockdown on, which was nice of them. Hopefully I’ll get it all back.
My PayPal account is currently still locked down while I contest all the shit that happened on it, but if it doesn’t get resolved in time I’ll just open up a new one to contribute.

funnily enough you are buying steroids
I’m just cunningly disguising it as something else. Expect an unmarked UPS package tomorrow. Then expect a federal indictment. Then wait for 6 years to go to trial. Then nothing will happen.

I kind of want to donate $.01 and then not have anyone else put in any more to the Pledgie
leaving J/M/G to squabble over the odd penny.
Their discourse will rip apart the Triumvirate, and cause mass chaos among the LL faithful leading to JI/Robert ’09!
by seattlebruin on Mar 5, 2009 3:38 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Paypal will take most of that $.01 leaving them with no donation
We discovered this last year when I donated a penny every ten minutes or something like that
