I really honestly like Gonzaga's chances

And I’m not saying that just because I picked the Zags to upset UNC based on offensive/defensive efficiency balance.

I'm retarded

That was a terrible gameplan and performance.

And Ty Lawson is totally ridiculous.

by cwel87 on Mar 27, 2009 9:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I was hoping for a Huskies/Huskies rematch

just because it would have confused the hell out of the announcers.

Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.

My bracket kinda sucked so far

but I could still run the table. That’d be pretty cool.

by Two Rs and Two Ls on Mar 26, 2009 2:01 PM PDT reply actions

I'm just the opposite

I’ve nearly run the table so far (only missed four teams in the first two rounds and I have 15 of the sweet 16) and am at the top of the table in my group, but I have no confidence that I will survive this weekend in that same position.

I'll be watching the East Regional. Shit yes.

Why would I watch Transformers when I can play with them at my house?

by .Taylor on Mar 26, 2009 4:37 PM PDT reply actions

They're doing one hell of a job of scaring the crap out of me

But that makes it 3-for-3 – just need two more W’s, and them to take a backseat to my boys.

by cwel87 on Mar 26, 2009 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I love the way Bill Raftery has a stroke when big things happen.

He always goes ape as they show the replay headed into the break (something like… “Henderson, WITH THE KISSSSSSS”). Anyway, did you catch his call of Levance Fields big dagger three? He stroked out and just stopped mid word. I almost lost it.

by abender20 on Mar 26, 2009 7:52 PM PDT reply actions

His and Gus Johnson

Raftery has his signature calls, but Gus is awesome because he just goes insane when something exciting happens

by seattlebruin on Mar 26, 2009 7:54 PM PDT up reply actions

I love Raftery's signature calls

how he opens each game with “and they open… in the man-to-man”

it’s just that every once in a while, he forgets there’s a game going on

by seattlebruin on Mar 26, 2009 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I miss Keith Jackson so much

every time he called a UCLA or UW game he’d make a huge point before the game of the natural beauty of the surroundings, and him and Fouts were a FANTASTIC announcing team.

by seattlebruin on Mar 26, 2009 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I know! I can't watch a Pac 10 game on ABC without imagining how he'd call the opening scene.

With his majestic spurting cadence "It’s a beautiful day for football in the Rose Bowl here in Pasadena California. "

by abender20 on Mar 26, 2009 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Amen

but you could tell he wasn’t as sharp as he used to be, and I think he deserved his retirement. Still he was excellent and I miss him.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

Dear Memphis

My bracket is riding on you. So needless to say but this game means a bit more to me than anybody else including yourself. Please win.

Sincerely Robert

I really wish I picked Nova to beat Pitt in the regional finals

But right now, I’ll take my teams. Got all four winners right today, and all four tomorrow are alive. Gonzaga-UNC is pretty much my entire bracket, since I have thorough confidence in MSU to dismantle KU.

It was an unremarkable region.

No, I was surprised you had Duke into the Elite 8 against anyone.

After their horrible loss to Clemson earlier I was very down on them.

by Sec 108 on Mar 27, 2009 10:22 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm pissed Duke went this far

they’ve been an easy bow out pick the last few years.

Billy Gillispie out at Kentucky

Hey Ben Howland, you know who could use a hard-nosed coach who values defense? The Kentucky Wildcats!

Some people do.

It pains me to think about how much better the last two years of USC teams would’ve been if Ryan Francis was still alive.

Arizona is putting on quite a display.

Also, Eric Devendorf looks like someone who would sell dime bags to middle schoolers.

by abender20 on Mar 27, 2009 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

I can't stand the guy

I picked against them just because he looks like (and quite possibly is a ) scum bag.

If someone would like to explain to me why Jordan Hill is a top 10 pick I'd be much obliged.

He has trouble hitting the rim on touch shots around the rim, his footwork is awful, and his response to double-teaming looks a lot like panic.

NBADraft.net

has him as #3 overall:

Remarkable athleticisim and a decent mid range jump shot

plus very good size. He’s your prototypical Amare Stoudemire or you-won’t-remember-this-guy-in-five-years prospect

by seattlebruin on Mar 27, 2009 5:40 PM PDT up reply actions

He's reasonably athletic but he's by no means a freak like Stoudemire.

He’s as raw or rawer than Tyrus Thomas with lesser athleticism and less basketball instinct.

by abender20 on Mar 27, 2009 5:42 PM PDT up reply actions

So this season blows, time for next year's top tens

please indicate which players are returning to school if you pick risky teams high.

1. Wake Forest (assumes Teague, Johnson, Aminu back)
2. Villanova
3. southern cal (with DeRozan, no Gibson)
4. Duke
5. Ohio State (with Mullens)
6. UCLA (with Holiday)
7. Missouri
8. Memphis (no Evans)
9. Kansas (no Aldrich)
10. North Carolina

USC at #3 in the country?

I don’t think I can imagine that for hoops.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

by bluemax on Mar 27, 2009 6:06 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't see it.

Although holy fuck apparently we might have way too many players on roster of Taj and DeRozan stay and Johnson gets reinstated.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

by bluemax on Mar 27, 2009 6:09 PM PDT up reply actions

They took a ton of hard-luck losses this year when DeRozan sucked

now DeRozan doesn’t suck, all the rest should be back, and they add a top five recruiting class including one giant fatass who can really score the ball. #3 might actually be a little pessimistic

by seattlebruin on Mar 27, 2009 6:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I assume the recruiting class

doesn’t count Alex Stephenson being allowed to play?

Hopefully DeRozan decides he doesn’t want to play for Kevin Durant’s future former team and comes back.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

by bluemax on Mar 27, 2009 6:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh, I even forgot about Stepheson

all that usc has been missing has been depth and they’re getting it next year. If DeRozan comes back they’re a potential one seed and NCAA investigation rolled into a neat little package

by seattlebruin on Mar 27, 2009 6:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I will agree

that depth has been a huge issue. Three straight years in the tournament we’ve gone down because we only had 5 guys who could contribute in any meaningful way.

Two of those 3 years it was our lack of size beyond Taj. I’m excited about Leonard Washington though.

You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

by bluemax on Mar 27, 2009 6:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, that would explain the large deficit

Of course, anyone taking basketball advice from me is on the fast track to embarrassing failure.

by oreotree on Mar 27, 2009 8:40 PM PDT reply actions

That was the best game of any sport I have ever seen.

I blacked out for a few seconds when Reynolds hit that shot. The best part was after the game when a bunch of the players were hanging out in the stands; the joy on their faces was incredible.

Go Nova

by dbroncos31 on Mar 29, 2009 9:16 AM PDT up reply actions

The only problem I see with those comments is you didn't give Michigan State a snowball's chance in hell of lasting long enough to get the upset

Also, I believe the ridiculously difficult 10-seed draw of USC gave Michigan State the early tight game in the tournament they needed to maintain their focus on the way to Detroit.

Congrats to the Spartans, you guys deserve the hell out of it.

by cwel87 on Mar 29, 2009 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Well obviously I'm not going to own up to discounting MSU.

I was right about the rest of the Big 10, but yes, I was wrong about MSU.

by abender20 on Mar 29, 2009 3:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Purdue didn't do awfully bad

But I liked what Greg Anthony had to say about the Big Ten prior to Selection Sunday: “Other than one standout team, there’s a lot of goodness in the conference. Only one is great, but almost every team can hold their own on any given night, and I think the selection committee will reward the Big Ten for that.”
