Luis Sojo Is A Genius
Mariners fans might be surprised to learn that Venezuela plans to start Carlos Silva rather than Felix Hernandez in its first game of the final round. Venezuela manager Luis Sojo, however, says that Silva "has been the best pitcher I have."

If he actually believes that, he's stupid
But if the goal is to win the tournament, I still think he made the right decision. If Felix starts this game and V wins, Silva just gets shelled even worse against USA or Japan.
If your goal is to make it to the finals, then yeah Felix should have started. Either way, goddamn it Silva.
I'd rather make it to the finals then get destroyed in the semis.
Personal opinion, of course. I would’ve loved Felix starting and the US (if they managed to beat Japan) facing Silva in the finals. Oh well.
You can't plan for a game you haven't made yet

Yeah but I thought Silva actually had a chance to win this game
Isn’t Choo the only major leaguer in Korea’s lineup? Despite his junk, I don’t think you’re throwing the game having him start.

No, totally rubbish.
Korea can crush pitchers with no plus stuff or if you pitch too much in the strike zone.
Silva v. Korea was dumb. The Koreans wouldn’t have even touched Felix.

Koreans..
Are probably the most underrated team in the WBC.
At the beginning you hear about Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Mexico, USA, Japan and Dominican Republic because of their MLB players; and Cuba because of their past success. People forget that the Koreans usually do pretty well in these competitions.
Okay
So I’m convinced I underrated Kore’s lineup in this argument. The fact that they can hang with Japan and just destroyed Venezuela begs the question (in my mind at least) of why more of them don’t make the jump to MLB? Are they just on par with AAAA mashers who can destroy bad pitches, but can’t hit good pitching?

They can't hit plus pitches is what it is.

I'd rather start Victor Zambrano over Silva if I was intent on saving Felix for the championship game.

IF they were smart they would have held Galaragga back from pitching in that meaningless game
the other night..
I kept forgetting he was on that roster.

That's not the whole story
Venezuela manager Luis Sojo, however, says that Silva "has been the best pitcher I have…
…made passionate love to," he added.

So, I'm guessing that they won't be beating a path to Luis' door with a managerial contract in hand, any time soon.
How'd you like him trying to say that WBC players should start practicing in January, but still play the full season afterward, potentially through October?
It’s pretty sad when Joe Morgan owns you in a discussion.
That's like invading France
and losing your own country in the counter-attack.
It's almost as if you mean the opposite of what you say.

“Flagged” or “Rec’d” without explanation why is not an approved LL comment. It follows under the same rule as no “+1” comments.
I got it.
Assuming that the rec JI received was from you.
That's what I get for rooting for Venezuela to win the whole thing.
Goddamn you Silva!
You can't hide from the omnipresent eye.
Yeah..my WBC bracket was perfect until Silva took a dump on it.
I fucking hate you Mariners

I, in fact, did not make a WBC bracket.

The next WBC is four years away.
Why they had a three-year gap between the first and second and a four-year gap between the second and third is a mystery to me.
To make it asynchronous...
With the World Cup and the Olympics.

This is only the second WBC unless I am terribly, horribly mistaken

Yes, but he is saying they are inexplicably making the gap between this one and the third one year longer.

Maybe Felix didn't pitch because he is injured?
I was at Shea for the Felix-Slam!
Personal M's record: 5-4.
Welcome back, Felix, Jose, Endy...
I’m sorry Luis Sojo is a drooling idiot. I would’ve liked to see you guys beat up on Japan in the final.
It seems to me that in a situation this important, you go with track record over hot streak. That said, I think he could’ve had Jose Lopez pitch and they would have been better off.
That's for the better anyway
I’m glad to see our guys back in camp

Don't they have to play a meaningless third place game first?

I find the results to hardly be surprising.

Korea
The Korean lineup really misses Lee Seung Yeup (plays for Yomiuri in Japan). Other than Choo and Lee Dae Ho, the rest of the team just have to try and scrap. I think they are more successful because they are used to seeing more unknown pitchers and without tons of video analysis compared to big league players. Anyway, I was telling everyone that Korea was going to rock Silva before the game started. It was fun, but I really felt bad for Mariner fans.
Sojo was trying to do us a favor
The more he uses Silva, the more likely he has a season ending injury.
