Heilman revenge game

Throw out the record books, this one means a little bit more to both teams.

Wait, baseball?

I thought we were a basketball and soccer site today.
Oh, and hockey.

Does SBN employ Erik Bedard now?

The game threads opening lines have been so minimalist lately.

Well RRS is off to an awful start

Two linedrives that were absolutely tagged.

And he hits the next batter and allows a groundball base hit

Make me love you again, RRS.

Also, Chris Woodward officially has zero range.

Good Lord

I’d like to call this bad luck, but RRS isn’t throwing anything decent

by JLC on Mar 19, 2009 7:18 PM PDT reply actions

Maybe people were scared away by all the Senators spam at the top

but there’s a game on right now and on tv no less so you’d think there’d be more interest in the GT.

Guy with a team USA hat watching the game

Why did I automatically think “Douchebag” when I saw him?

by JLC on Mar 19, 2009 7:42 PM PDT reply actions

That was a fantastic AB by Gutierrez

Count went to 1-2 on some questionable called strike calls, but Gutierrez refused to swing at the next 3 pitches and took a walk. Fantastic.

by JLC on Mar 19, 2009 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

Betancourt!

At least he saw more pitches in that AB

by JLC on Mar 19, 2009 8:01 PM PDT reply actions

Okay, Ken

Now would be a good time to prove to us that you’re not done

by JLC on Mar 19, 2009 8:01 PM PDT reply actions

I want to be angry at Yuni so bad.

Still can’t bunt. Still doesn’t see a lot of pitches. But he is swinging at good pitches.

by Wilder. on Mar 19, 2009 8:36 PM PDT reply actions

After seeing this stat, I'm not so sure I want to see him take pitches

In the past three seasons, he is 68-for-203 (.335) when swinging at the first pitch and a .199 hitter (29-for-146) on a 2-and-2 count.

I’m not a huge stat-guy like the rest of you here, but take it for what it’s worth, he is clearly a better hitter swinging at the first pitch. Unless of course you guys think it’s too small of a sample.

by d0nkey on Mar 20, 2009 9:46 AM PDT up reply actions

That's interesting

Where do you get this kind of information? I’m interested to see what the league averages are for some other pitch counts

Who are the Friars?

According to the M’s main site that’s who we’re facing.

Watch, listen LIVE: Mariners finish twin bill vs. Friars

Watch on MLB.TV or listen on Gameday Audio as the Mariners host the Friars. Seattle’s other lineup dropped a matinee vs. the Cubs. MLB.TV | Live box score

Yeah, um...

Well at least you know now.

A padre and a friar are synonymous.

Maybe Erikkkkkkk Bedard can come out and tell him to calm down in French.

Sucks being the brother of Adrian Gonzalez. Always taking the punishment.

I like that Buhner is still doing ads for you guys.

I was a huge fan of his when he played (I followed the Mariners heavily in “The Joey Era”).

I was going to make a Marc Newfield reference here, but I decided not to.

However, I was looking at the 1990 draft because of my thinking of him. I just learned Dan Wilson was selected No.7 overall (Marc Newfield was No.6). I find it hilarious Wilson became a Mariner legend while Newfield never amounted to anything.

Cora... sorry.

He’s my favorite player ever and I paid a lot of attention to whoever he happened to be playing for.

Yeah, I knew it was Joey Cora you were referring to.

But there is no “The Joey Era” in Mariners history. If there was, it lasted for maybe 5 minutes while in the dugout after Game 6 of the 1995 ALCS.
