You hate it because it matters so much and the tension is unbearable, right?
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
March Madness will be not as awesome this year because Arizona probably won't be in it

I may get to see the Elite Eight games in Boston.

I hate my friend
because I got a call yesterday from him that said “you almost had tickets to the opening round games next week”, and then went on to tell me the story of how he thought he couldn’t use his tickets but then it turned out he could. It would have been preferable that he not call at all.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
Hey! You almost had a million dollars and a great house.
But it turns I’m not dying. So… oh well, I guess.
Throw the snacks in the bag and I'm ghost like Swayze!
The Huskies are gonna have a hard time
without those 10 extra FTs a game the refs give them at home.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Spoken like someone whose school sucks at hoops!
Oh wait, my school is gonna get eliminated today.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

Its easier to hate
when your school sucks at it :-P I’m teasing of course.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Yeah, well, my school can kick your school's ass.
Yeah, that’s how petty it sounds.
And my school's squash team hasn't lost since 1998

There has to be more people who simply can't stand basketball...
It’s such a terrible month when the only sports on are meaningless baseball with below replacement level players and hour after hour of basketball. The time from the end of the super bowl until opening day is just the most tortuous month-ish in existence.
Can we do the WBC every year?

The only sport that has not made me unbearably sad for the last three years is college basketball.
by Aaron Campeau on Mar 13, 2009 12:30 PM PDT up reply actions
See, this is what sucks for me.
I just don’t enjoy any basketball, so while teams in Washington haven’t done too terribly, I can’t feel happy about it, since I hate basketball.
Really, the Seahawks have been my “good” team, and 2008….well, 2008 was just 2008. Yuck.

My attachment to Memphis basketball has less to do with basketball than community pride.
Don’t get me wrong; I love watching them play on its own merits. But Memphis basketball is religion there, and there’s not a whole lot else to feel good about in Memphis. So while part of it is about watching my team do well, another huge part of it is knowing how important it is to the city.

This is kind of how I feel about Washington basketball
I don’t feel any real connection to Gonzaga, and I only feel a little bit of one to the Huskies since my parents were Alumni (I’m going to WWU myself) but I feel compelled to cheer them on when they’re actually fielding a good team because they’re kind of my home town. Basketball normally bores the hell out of me but when you’ve got a couple teams in state that might reach the final four I feel kind of compelled to pay a little bit of attention out of city/state pride.
I tend to root for all the Washington teams to do well in the Tourney
As a UW fan, I’m not exactly homies with WSU, but I feel that sense of state pride when they do well against other teams, especially East Coast.
I have hated watching basketball since the NBA game went to shit about 15 years ago.
I hate March the most. Spring training is nice and all but it’s really just methadone. I want my good junk!
"We are a bad defensive team." -B. Cashman
I like March solely because it means winter's on the way out
which doesn’t matter so much in SoCal but up ‘round these parts that’s a pretty big damn deal.
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
"on the way out" being the operative term
Nice Guys Finish Third - Hopelessly lost, but makin' good time.
I actually really like springs
not too hot, light until late, plenty of sun.

In February you get to look forward to Spring Training since every year I forget how awful Spring Training is
Plus somehow February seems closer to the beginning of the regular season than March.

On an unrelated note
the official MLB app for iPhone is going to have streaming gameday audio. Talk about your killer features.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Sweet jesus that's awesome.
Now they just need to make a quicktime player that streams MLB.tv

For the iPhone or for OS X?
Because I’ve been using Quicktime to stream MLB.tv for 2 years now.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
For the iPhone. I don't like Mac desktops or computers in general.
The iPhone is the only piece of Apple equipment I’ve ever had.

Well they do have video highlights
that play after the fact. Considering other phones have streaming video I’m not sure why the iPhone and MLB couldn’t do something similar.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.
Good thing we have the WBC.

Is that still going on?
Why do have college basketball and the WBC on at the same time? Who invented that stupid schedule?

Split Squads?!
Does this mean that Marwin Vega will be making his long awaited appearance?
I love spring training
But I live in AZ and this is all the Mariners I get to see live all year.
Spring training got boring...
Spring training got boring as soon as we stopped being undefeated. (And scoring over 10 runs each game).
The most interesting part to me no is to see if Griffey was used as DH or not. I hope he plays DH a lot in spring so he’ll get used to it, and be fine with it once the real season starts.
I hope he plays at least a little LF, and both he and the executives realize he can't play there anymore.

I'm too afraid he'd hurt himself
And I’m hoping he waits until at least May to do that. Gotta give him time to solidify himself as the team leader before he breaks.
Lineups are up:
Vs Cubs
LF: Redman
CF: Balentien
RF: Gillies
Vs Dbacks
LF: Wilson
CF: Gutierrez
RF: Morse

Still, if you're going to use Gillies, why not use
Carroll/almonte/McOwen or whatever? Or, even better, that Steve Moss guy they picked up a month or two ago. Is he hurt or something?
Niehaus said something about Gillies being in 'extended' camp
I think most of the other minor leaguers are just arriving in Peoria
by shinallsrevenge on Mar 13, 2009 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions
That's probably it. Though I know I've seen Joe Dunigan pinch run
and I’d bet they’ve got a few other guys hanging around.
Moss really does surprise me; he wouldn’t be in extended camp, and they clearly need the depth.
Oh hey, a Mel Stocker sighting....
I thought they’d get indie-league vet with Brewer ties #1, but they went with indie-league vet with Brewer ties #2.
Wow gameday is working better than normal
for ST, at least on the D-Back game.

Now that I have a hold of an actual radio, the M's/Cubs game is on KIRO
and it’s 2-0 Cubs after 1

Ah crappity crap, I didn't even check I'm so used to the weekday games being on MLB pay only radio.
Really happy this sub-thread mentioned the local broadcast, thanks.

by shinallsrevenge on Mar 13, 2009 2:36 PM PDT reply actions
Just back from the Ms / D-bags game.
I got dogs / pop / beer pre-game, and when I got back to our seats, my g/f informed me that the two old men behind us were very bright and knew a lot about baseball.
Throughout the games they informed us of the following:
Tui might take the everyday 3b job from Beltre because Tui plays great defense and Beltre has been a total bust.
Bryan LaHair is really tall, and therefore really good.
Mike Morse looks really smooth in the outfield.
Justin Thomas has a very solid delivery.
I had to restrain myself from telling them off.
I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

Justin Thomas used to be a prospect...
Reminded me kind of Buehrle.
He was the wildy effective pitcher now he’s just wild.
You got slurved bitch.
That 2nd sentence makes noe sense...
I meant to say He kind of reminds me of Buehrle
You got slurved bitch.
Buehrle is a good pitcher.
