He clogged up the bases

I don’t even know what that means. Hi LL <3

To be fair,

I think Randall Simon is the one person who actually could clog up the bases.

Him or Walter Young.

That was just unbelievable

Fucking awesome. Even better than Korea winning their pool. Waaaay better.

The Dutch have a killer pitching staff. Most MLB teams would be hard pressed to keep that lineup scoreless for 10.2 innings.

Quite literally the greatest upset in baseball history that *I* have ever witnessed.

And man, it’s probably up there with the greatest upsets in baseball history full stop.

If I’m the GM of a crappy MLB team, I’m wondering whether I can get some of those Dutch pitchers to come out on NRIs.

Hmmmm.

Might be kinda tricky to sew “Gottliebsdotter-Ingmarssohn” on a jersey…

This signature space for rent.

Don't think I haven't done that a few times already.

61/755: KGJ's homer totals, or Rosie O'Donnell's age/weight in 2019?

Quote of the day
“I don’t have big names, but I’ve got some long names,” Netherlands coach Rod Delmonico joked.

I'd take a half a dozen of those guys

for a million a piece, if that’s what it took. Probably a good deal more for some of them.

Now if the Aussie team led by former M's Blackley and Snelling can make it the the 2nd round as well...

It looks like the underdog story is gonna get a little more interesting becuase we all love the underdog story.

You got slurved bitch.

My wife is 1/2 Dutch

and not a big baseball fan, but she was enthralled with the last three innings.

I LOVE the WBC. Surviving JJ Putz; Aumont’s comeback; the Aussies’ bats; the Nederlanders – great stuff.

I still cannot believe I watched that happen.

You can't hide from the omnipresent eye.

Oh sweet Jesus...

The Dutch won.

I was convinced that Marmol would strikeout the side in the 11th.

And then we’d hear pundits say that the Netherlands should be proud they’d upset the DR in Game 1, even though they came so close to upsetting Puerto Rico and DR in their rematch. And the underdog story would end there – with a sense that the Netherlands accomplished something no one expected them to, but that they were so close to accomplishing so much more.

But then it happened. They won. They fucking won. It was more than just David beating Goliath. It was a gimp-legged, 75 year old David beating a lineup of nine Goliaths. Every inning I was on the edge of my seat, worried about one of the many DR power hitters going yard. Never happened.

Best baseball game I’ve seen in years.

That's nothing short of beautiful.

Why would I watch Transformers when I can play with them at my house?

The five best free agent pitchers remaining on the market:

1.) Pedro Martinez
2.) Odalis Perez
3.) That one guy on the Dutch team
4.) That other guy on the Dutch team
5.) That third guy on the Dutch team

Well...

Perhaps you’re just commenting on the paucity of MLB FA ptichers, but the Netherlands struck out 6 while walking 7 in 11 innings of play for a game FIP of 4.2.

But how about that Jimenez kid: 2.5K/IP.

by philosofool on Mar 10, 2009 10:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually...

…Ponson (#3 on your list, I believe) wouldn’t be an awful idea if you desperately need a fifth or sixth starter. Marcel has him at a 4.81 FIP next year.

one of them

Is Sidney Ponson though.

He's saying it from Zduriencik's couch.

Probably doesn’t even have HD. Poor Adrian.

I can't wait for the inevitiable "if the dr had aroid they would have won" comments

while the same guy later goes on to criticize him for not being clutch in the playoffs

by seattlebruin on Mar 11, 2009 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it was Hardball Times this morning that said

and I’m paraphrasing here, that everyone who says the Yankees would be better off without A-Rod and his playoff chokes should be amazed that the DR didn’t win the whole thing. After all, they didn’t have A-Rod, which if you believe the bleatings of the NY press/fanbase is the key to playoff success.

Oh man...

I hate it when I find out that my post had 3 replies, but when I come back to the diary, my comment has been hidden so I can’t see what the replies were. Probably some of the greatest replies of all time… and I don’t even get to read them. :(

by johnbai on Mar 11, 2009 12:11 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Ah... thanks.

The warning message cleared up a question of mine. What had once seemed arbitrary and fascistic, now seems practical and necessary. Explanations are such a wonderful thing.
