Andruw Jones --------> Rangers
If he continues to K in half his at bats, it won't matter that he plays in a bandbox. Coming off two bad seasons, its likely that he's done at 31, which is kind of sad, but whatever.
Its a minor league deal, though, and there is no risk to Texas. No harm in bringing him into camp to see if he's got anything left. Thankfully, Bill's no longer our GM, otherwise we'd have signed him to a 3/31 deal touting our new 'superstar' centerfielder.

Nuts
Jones is a great buy low candidate; even when he struggled offensively in 2007 he was still a three win player. As long as his defense can hold steady he wouldn’t even have to be a league average hitter to be a useful player— plus this potentially moves Hamilton out of center and over to a corner where his skills are better suited.
As tight as our division is at the moment I hate to see a rival add talent. Kudos to the Rangers.

I don't think Jon Daniels isn't as bad as people say he is.

How bad do they say he is?
I don’t think he’s great, but even Brian Sabaen and Ned Colletti make good moves every now and then.

So if you *don't* think he *isn't* . . .
then that would mean that you do think he is as bad as people say he is?

That was a grammatical mistake.
Thanks for keeping me honest.

So the Rangers finally have a center fielder

They already had one
they just now have potentially superior one.

I still don't see the point

I guess I don't see the harm in adding cheap depth
The Rangers may actually agree with Adam that at present, Andruw wouldn’t fit on the 25-man roster, but maybe a couple of guys get injured, or maybe he plays in AAA, gains some trade value and you get a mildly intriguing suspect in return for him.
If they force Andruw into the major league lineup over someone more qualified, that would be a mistake, but it’s not a mistake that they’ve made yet. The minor league contract itself seems like a fine move to me, even if it is pretty underwhelming.

He can back out if he doesn't make the 40 man roster

In which case the Rangers are no worse off than if they hadn't signed him at all

Yeah but he won't be able to be stashed in AAA
so he’ll be taking somebody’s spot who has more talent

The way I see it
Their LF options were worth something like 2 wins. Jones, if he bounces back could be worth something like 3-3.5. It’s basically a no-risk deal that could add in a win in a tight division.

Marlon Byrd would have been a suffice option.
You just don't know when to keep your mouth shut, do you Saxy boy?
