New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

From the Cards blog: Hoping to get some inter-site discussion going!

Hi M's fans,

I'm a reader/poster over at VivaElBirdos, the Cards blog on SBNation. I just wrote a long FanPost about Jarrod Washburn and the possibility of the Cardinals and Mariners being trade partners. I was hoping maybe some of you guys could chip in and provide a view from the other side.

My FanPost is here: LINK

Sorry if this kind of FanPost is verboten around these parts. If it is, feel free to delete it, and I apologize.

I hope some of you will provide insight, however. I know that if I were looking for honest, open, critical thinking about the Cardinals, I wouldn't look to the media, I'd look to VEB. My thinking is that while I can certainly go read around the Seattle newspapers, it's probably a better idea to get the input of you guys, the fans, who can be more open about what the team is doing/should be doing, etc.

Thanks!

If 99.99999999999% of us weren't JI

given the 1 person that is, there would need to be 100,000,000,000 of us.

You may have Washburn with our compliments

and all we ask in return is written acknowledgment that there’s no givebacks. You take him, you got him.

Can't post there yet - 2 day waiting period/background check

So I’ll put it here:
A thousand times Yes. Whatever the cards want to give, I’ll take.

Given that your scenario involves the cardinals sending talent to Seattle as well as eating the salary, how about a low-level prospect – De La Cruz, Craig, Hooker. Hey, great point over at VEB about Washburn’s solid ERA in the AL – this’d be a win-win deal.

Let me just say a few things

1) Jarrod Washburn is mediocre
2) He would help the Cardinals
3) Why not just sign Ben Sheets?

It all depends on how much money is in the STL budget and what their options are. I wouldn’t mind trading Washburn for Ryan Franklin or one of the small other bad contracts, or a project like Duncan who makes less money.

I'm willing to demand Colt Sedbrook in exchange for Washburn

Anything else is gravy

Goddamn it was stupid to keep Washburn.

It’s not even realistic to unload him on the Cardinals.

You're not going to have much luck here dude

Everyone here is salivating to crucify Washburn for being an average pitcher who gets paid a bit too much. Honestly, I’d much rather keep Washburn than Silva or Batista (who I would dump for nothing) and I think that GMZ ought to get a little something in return if he trades the Burninator.

We’re not going to be helpful or rational though, because we’ve all gotten used to the idea that we’re going to suck because we can’t afford to sign Abreu… and we can’t afford it because we have too many midling to crappy pitchers making $10 per year.

Given the market, he has negative trade value if he dealt and the receiving team assumes the full contract.

I think he agrees with you as does any sane human

Really...

or has the defence behind him just been below average?

by johnbai on Feb 2, 2009 7:50 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Really really.

Would I give you defence dependant information? :(

by Graham on Feb 2, 2009 7:54 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah I looked it up afterwards

So Washburn was a TINY bit below average his first two seasons as a Mariner… assuming we define average as 2 wins above replacement. Close enough to average in my book.

Silva is better than Washburn.

I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

by Llewdor on Feb 3, 2009 11:33 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Honestly

You guys should just sign Sheets—Zoidberg is familiar with him after all. Don’t get suckered in by this. Cardinals fans are generally devious by nature and they are only looking to fleece you. They say they want Washburn but then they’ll make a move on King Felix. Beware—run far away from this as fast as possible.

Time is an illusion--lunch time doubly so.

I've still got a gut feeling that

Washburn’s gonna use this defense and this outfield to eke out a 3.xx ERA by mid-june and some stupid organization, thinking that Washburn’s “turned a corner”, is gonna give up an actual, honest-to-goodness prospect for him, only to see him crash and burn.

If Zduriencik manages to do it with Washburn (and heck, while we’re dreaming, Silva) he needs to get the goddamn 2009 Nobel Prize in something.

Meh

That would just be a repeat of last year. Moving him then would’ve been more impressive and that move would’ve been overseen by Lee Pelekoudas for cryin’ out loud.

Now, moving Silva this year would be a different story.
