It's On! Beer-wise, that is...
And the results: An 825-590 smackdown of Oregon by the greatness of Washington.
And this time, there's a twist! (Can you have a twist when it's only the 2nd time it's ever happened?) California is waddling its tall, ungainly and insecure self into the room and demanding that we fawn over it before it goes off to rape our electricity prices some more.
Dates: 11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 25th - Midnight Sunday Mar. 1st
Where: Concordia Ale House (Map)
If California wins, then by gods, I will make a fanpost decrying the results.

Lagunitas pretty good.
I am no longer in Spokane, but I think I'll keep the name anyway.
Also Racer 5
and to clarify, that is, Lagunitas is pretty good.

oops. I really only drink IPA's so I forgot.

Booo, they dropped the Belgian category
Given that I dislike most IPAs and Pales…I’m out. Oh wait, I live in Seattle, so I’m out anyway.
I've never had a Belgian style anything above decent from a West Coast brewery.

Lost abbey makes really good belgian style beer
Jolly Pumpkin from Michigan as well.
Lost Abbey is probably the best brewer of Belgian style ales on the West Coast, but the can't touch Unibroue or Ommegang.

Unibroue and Ommegang have been pretty damn static over the past five years
Not very impressed with the new beers I’ve had from either one lately.
Although the Ommegang Rouge sour that they don’t bottle is pretty excellent.
I would agree that Unibroue's recent limited releases have been rather uninspiring.
Their core line is so so good though. Fin du Monde is one of my absolute favorite beers in the world.

Honestly
I’m having trouble coming up with WA breweries that beat Stone.
You represent Cascadia well, Mr President.

I can't imagine how Washington beats Oregon either.

Washington Beer is really good..
A lot of it just doesn’t get bottled and shipped all over.
That is one thing the California breweries have over both Washington and Oregon.
I've had a lot of Washington beer, and I think a lot of it is very good and some of it is excellent.
Oregon produces more excellent beer than Washington and I don’t think it’s particularly close. California blows both of them completely out of the water.

Well it's a matter of size and population
Sure I guess if this is just a pure numbers game California would win almost any contest.
I would put Walking Man brewery up against any in California.
Walking Man doesn't come close.
I think Oregon wins simply because of Deschutes, Rogue, and Hair of the Dog. The Adam in the Wood is Godly.
Between WA/OR, that is
Pound for pound, I think Oregon makes the best on the west coast. But there’s no denying that California wins this contest.
Take five minutes and put it all in one post.

Another feather in the Oregon cap!

C'mon Washington!
The rules of the contest make this much more even. If I were a cynic, I’d say the rules really helped Washington the first time. I don’t care how many breweries CA has that are better than anything in WA., the point is they need a total of 4 beers. That SHOULD give CA. the advantage in I-IPA, but they can’t win the same category 4 times (which, honestly, they probably would). For Pale, I think it’s anybody’s game. Stone Pale is tasty, but I don’t know that it’s better than Manny’s or, depending on your taste, Maritime’s. Stout…. yeah, on paper this is a bloodbath. But who knows? Maybe WA ties it up with the Brewer’s choice – with a barley wine or something.
