Fanfest this year, anyone?
There has been some discussion on Twitter between myself, Positive Paul, msb, and a few others, that attendance of FanFest this year is absolutely necessary. In conjunction with and adding to this thread here, I believe we should all plan for attendance of FanFest on Saturday the 30th, and give Mr Zduriencik the standing ovation he so well deserves. The goal just being to sit and listen to the lecture portion of the event, and let 'em know we're there! I will definitely be there, should be relatively easy to spot, and would love to actually meet some of you, finally, in what has surely become the Happiest Place on Earth. Though I plan to go both days of FF, it has been generally decided that Saturday would be the best day for a grouping. Any thoughts?

I should be able to make it
Put it on my calendar, don’t have tickets yet though.

I'm going to grab mine
Either later today or tomorrow.

I am going Saturday.
If there is a sign or what have you or maybe a “We are going here afterwords to get drinks and chat” then I will try to stop by and say hello.
It'll be the same
I don’t change it much these days, and I’ve grown partial to the red – sadly, I cannot do blue, it doesn’t take on my hair. :(

Parking in the structure across from the park was five dollars last year.

My mistake.
I forgot to put the twenty before the five in that comment. It was $25 last year for the parking structure.

I didn't go last year but I remember it being free and why would the parking be 25$ and the event 10$?
Who am I supposed to believe, mark? You or my wife?
I still have this nagging feeling it was only $5 (or it could’ve been free. You expect me to remember something from a year ago?!?), and that my wife is confusing the FF parking prices with those for an actual game. You make a good point about the parking costing more than the actual event. So, let’s roll with $5 and hope my wife doesn’t see this post.

The reason I asked, was, looking at tickets online, they offered the choice to add on a $5 parking pass.
I just remember rolling up and parking for free.
I'm confident saying it's either free or $5 to park in the parking garage.

You have no idea.

We can grope, too -
Especially if Gutz is around again. :D
As for the parking garage, I have no idea. I seem to vaguely remember that it was $5 last year, flat. I usually park on the street somewhere, since attendance normally doesn’t warrant paid parking…

Have you checked with Gutz?
If he’s ok with it, then who am I to argue. :D

Fanfest is great
It comes just at the time you get homesick from Safeco. I usually make it up for both days, but I’ll at least be there for one.
You hit it on the nose, exactly
It’s right between the point you really need to do ANYthing having to do with baseball, and the time when P&C report. Excellent timing, I think. :)

I'd love to go - haven't been to a fanfest for like 8 years. I'll have to see though.
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo, Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!
I'm really interested in going this year
And would probably be down for meeting up with LLers, even though I’m a major lurker. (I saw section331[’s hair] at a game last year but was too shy to go up and say hi.)
I don't bite! :)
I just plan on going in and sitting down, maybe trying to find those I do recognize. Oh, and a hot dog. I definitely plan on a hot dog. :D

It also woulda been hard to get over to where you were/not get lost in people...
It was the second-to-last game; you were several sections away, furiously taking photos of Batista’s surprisingly good performance at the very end of the night, and I might have had a hard time explaining to my friend that I was going to go say hi to another person on a Mariners blog on which I barely post. But I will not hesitate in the future!
Ah.
Yeah, I thought that was going to be it for him, figured I should get a last pitch photo – then they had him throw again the next day! No worries, I’m sure we’ll all eventually meet each other. :)

My FF technique
(once they moved to Safeco) is to take a quick circuit, then plant myself (usually long-john clad) for the the Q&As. And some photo-taking. And eating.
Yeah, that's about my MOD, too!

My family and I should be there on Saturday (if I can get the day off).
I’d love to meet some LL’ers while there. Living in North Central Washington doesn’t really allow for a lot meet-ups at footbaLL and such. If you see someone holding up a largish sign that says “Yes, Cliff Lee is, in fact, a Mariner!” then you know that’s me. Feel free to come up and chat.

Is the sign
A verification for others, or a reminder to yourself to believe it? ;)

Probably a little of both.
And a reminder to all that Jack Z. is a genius.

Am planning to attend FanFest,
and would love to be part of the cheering section for Trader Jack. Is he supposed to be there on Saturday?

I'm not sure
He was there both days last year, and I’d just have to think he’d be there this year after all the offseason moves; but the guest list hasn’t been announced just yet. I’ll applaud anyone in this organization, pretty much, after the past few weeks. haha!

Sounds good,
and hopefully there will be opportunities for hot dogs and beer.

I can't wait for this
Judging from the interviews with him over the past few days there is one thing GMZ has no idea how to handle and that is complete infatuation from the fanbase. He never once stumbled over his words or was unprepared for a conversation until they started reading off the text messages fans were sending in about him right after the Bradley trade.
I assume the schedule will be as in the past ...
broadcasters both days, FO guys both days, manager & some coaches both days, various players rotated through as available.
I am excited FOR you!

Never been to Fan Fest-is it a sit wherever you want affair?
And do I have to be under 30 to sit with the cool kids?
Yes and no
It’s GA, and there is plenty to do. It sounds like a lot of us will likely sit and listen to the talks/ask questions over the first base dugout, but there is a ton of other things to do, even more if you have kids. :)
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
And by "no"
I mean that there are at least two of us who will be there who are definitely NOT under 30…
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
With the cool kids, yes.
But you can sit with the LLers.
...and now I'm here
Neat-this will be my chance to politely but strongly suggest to Dave Sims
for the love of God, STOP trying to pronounce Gutti’s name like that!. It makes me wanna fling my radio at my television. Inability to roll your rrrrrrr’s when there is no reason to do it anyway makes me wanna gouge my ears out with spoons.
Maybe Edgaaaar will be there and I can pass out and he will have to resucitate me :)
He probably asked him to roll the "rr", which is the correct way to pronounce it.
Sims can’t do it quite right, but it is tough and he has gotten a little better at it. At least he’s trying and not just anglicizing the player’s name like a lot of baseball broadcasters do.

I get that it's correct and even that Guti might want it,
but it doesn’t reduce my cringe factor…and it is all about me. :) As a sidenote, I DO love when Dave gets a little befuddled and tells me it’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon out for baseball…and it’s Thursday…
I just don't think native English speakers should try to overpronounce non-English names at all
Anglicizing a non-English name is just kinda the way it works; if a native French, Chinese, Indian, or whatever-language speaker tries to pronounce a Spanish name, they don’t try to make it sound Spanish; the name comes out inflected by their native language. It’s a peculiarity of American culture that Americans feel the need to “correctly” pronounce non-English names, and it’s always struck me as very odd.
Guilty
I always pronounce a name as you would hear it in their country or as close as I can get to it. For me it’s kind of a respect thing. I have heard several people mention that it’s insulting that a person won’t even make the effort to get their name right.
Political correctness at work!

I had a feeling
Yeah, it was not the best comment, just a knee-jerk one. Apologies. No more.
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
I wouldn't get too worried about pronunciation.
To me, it is simply a matter of individual preference, and if someone wants their name pronounced a certain way, then that is what I try to do. Not a big deal.
