Mariners sign Pedro Okuda
Is he Japanese? Is he Brazilian? I have no idea. He's a 19 year old LH hitting shortstop though, so that's nice I guess. Don't expect too much though.

Our Brazilian scouting is really taking off. Good thing too. They’re one of the markets that’s still opening up, but could get big fast.

Well....
“Is he Japanese? Is he Brazilian? "
Could be both. There’s been a fair amount of immigration to South America….
That's how the game got started in Brazil.
Everyone was more interested in futbol until the waves of Japanese immigration hit. For a long time, it was only a niche sport, exclusive to the Japanese community, but they’ve started to branch out recently. It’s still Japanese dominated, and in the academies they run there, you’re required to have a working knowledge of both Portuguese and Japanese to get on the field, but it’s slowly gaining popularity.

Assuming that is him
Does that swing remind you of Ichiro’s HR swing at all?

It's him.
I’m going to have to go through the videos and stories I’m compiling.
I figure the Cliff Lee high will get people through the next couple of hours when I have class.

Yes, he does seem to have an Ichiro influence.
I’m polishing up a post right now, I’m thinking it will hit USSM tomorrow morning.

Well crap.
I intended to schedule it for tomorrow morning, but clearly failed to do so.

What's the big deal?
That fence was only 120 feet.
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Yes clearly we're celebrating in the streets that our new signing is a home run machine

120 feet ...
Not really that far
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
Get it?
I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football. Ugh
I apologize
Just trying to have fun on a dreary Wednesday. I will return to my hole.

Yeesh people.
It’s kind of a lame and obvious joke, but jumping on him for it is unnecessary.
Am I retarded.
Or is he a switch hitter? He’s clearly batting righty at 1:22.

No, reports I read suggested that he switch-hits.
But the M’s announced him as left-handed, and so I think he might drop it long-term.
