John Lackey -----> Red Sox?
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that John Lackey is going to be taking a physical today in Boston... While Peter Gammons is saying that Mike Lowell may be requiring surgery on his thumb. It doesn't say if it will change the deal to Texas, but if it does.. One less suitor for Beltre?
Contract is expected by Rosenthal to be similar than AJ Burnett money - I must say, I am pretty stoked about Lackey leaving the division, even if it is a lateral move in terms of amount of hate.

I am just stoked that the Angels are now worse
and hopefully will do something crazy and overreact to sign someone like Doug Davis or Jarrod Washburn
Oh.. and we just signed Eliezer Alfonzo

Vet catcher, hit okay at one point.
Not a bad pickup. Probably not going to stick anywhere.

Someone's gotta put on the catcher's mitt in ST right?

Pretty much.
We’ll probably get some combination of Oliveros, Quiroz, and Yepez anyway, but it’s always necessary to bring one new guy in.

If this is true, I'm especially glad that we're not paying Lackey for his years on the wrong side of 30.
What weirds me out more is how much hype he gets. He's a 3.83 FIP, 4.00 xFIP, 4.60 tRA pitcher for his career.
That’s good, but certainly not worth $16 million per year, if he gets Burnett money like he’s been asking for.
I’m sure Lackey would still be a good pitcher, and I’d have found him exciting to watch here, but if Boston gives him the deal that it appears they’ll have to give for his age 32-36 seasons, I’ll feel even more like we dodged a bullet.

He was also the first Rookie to win a game 7 of the World Series in 93 years, so I can see how that would stick with him.

Was he also the first rookie to pitch a game seven?
There have only been 30 or so seven game series. Probably he’s one of maybe two rookies to have started one.

He was the first rookie to win game 7 of the world series since 1909, 93 years before 2002. I'd assume that Lackey wasn't the first based on this information.

I mean WOO-HOO!
I would not want to pay out that contract. Jesus. Must be nice to not have to worry about bad contracts.
Well we still have Carlos Silva.
But it is nice not having to worry about new bad contracts. I hope anyway.
