Also, I still love that this happened, even if it isn't a surprise.
Yet another reason I would have preferred him over Morrow.

Didn't Richie Sexson get pulled over for drunk driving in the same county and only got a slap on the wrist?

FWIW.
Lincecum. " Prosecutors in Clark County, Wash., and Tim Lincecum have reached an agreement in which the pitcher will pay a $250 fine relating to his possession of a marijuana pipe with the drug possession charge being dropped. Lincecum also must pay a $122 fine for speeding. This disposition, which is standard for a first-time offender for misdemeanor pot possession who cooperates with police."
Sexson. “Stopped near his home, after taking off from a stop light and quickly reach 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. 2 opened beer bottles were found in the back seat, according to prosecutors. Performed field sobriety tests but refused to blow into a portable breath tester, and when his blood alcohol level was tested later it registered .07, just under the legal threshold of .08. Second-degree negligent driving, an infraction punishable by a $538 fine. Deputy prosecutors agreed to reduce the charge in part because the only reported driving problem, speeding about 15 mph over the limit, is common and isn’t by itself an indication that the driver was intoxicated.”

Hey, as someone who has tried having pot in the past
I’d like to say that having pot is too often maligned as a gateway to having other drugs. No one talks about having alcohol, or having cigarettes as gateways, although I’d guess having those can lead to having cocaine or having other substances.

I don't know how the law works, but by pleading not guilty means he wants to go to trial and get a smaller fine or sentence?
Because clearly he is guilty. I just don’t the know the advantages of pleading not guilty if all he does is pay a fine and gets slap on the wrist if he pleads guilty. Any lawyers or law students who can clarify what the advantages are of pleading not guilty?

Sure
It usually means they want to talk to an attorney about their options first. Take it from someone who does this on a daily basis [meaning I am in court…not getting caught with pot], most judges don’t even allow guilty pleas at arraignments as they want the defendant to talk to counsel first. Pot charges in WA can cause lots of problems if people just plead, especially if they are minors and ever wish to go to college.
It sounds like this case is being resolved by payment of $377 in fines in exchange for a dismissal…pretty common for first offense of this sort in a bigger jurisdiction who wants to commit their resources to more pressing needs.
By not pleading guilty, Lincecum has avoided a conviction on his record, will have less fines to pay, dodges the mandatory 24 hours in jail you get from a conviction for this offense, and doesn’t have to deal with a probation officer or a drug/alcohol eval. Smart move.

In Seattle the cop would have taken the pipe and thrown it away and then
put the weed into his pocket for addition to his personal stash.
