Updated: Shot by his own body guard.

My immediate reaction; Vincente Padilla needs a body guard?

Ah damn.

I was hoping he Plax’d himself so I could use the term “Plax’d”.

I'm not a baseball guy.

So I know nothing.

Everyone needs a body guard in Venezuela these days because of so much kidnapping going on.

Especially if you have money and some celebrity.

Even worse country to get kidnapped in.

A friend of a player once e-mailed me asking how popular baseball was there.

I ultimately did not respond that it was the fourth biggest pastime, behind drug trafficking, running from death squads, and soccer.

Nicaragua is among the safest countries in Latin America.

It’s poor as hell, but it’s quite safe. Venezuela, Brazil, and Mexico, I believe, are the three countries there with the worst crime and violence (although this isn’t my area of expertise, so I don’t have any links handy). I get that you’re partly kidding, but the widespread notion that Nicaragua is still going through a dirty war bugs me.

Bah

Give me an offseason where Ugueth Urbina is chasing after someone with a machete.

Those were the days.

Even better ...

“Vicente Padilla is recovering from a bullet wound in his leg after a target shooting instructor accidentally shot him.”
