Should I bother linking to good stuff at USSM, or do you guys pretty much all already read it? I should hope it's the latter.

Do we talk about the linked post in our own comment threads

or do we just talk about the one sentence Jeff added?

Or do we just bash on USSM and reminisce about the old days?

I’m so confused.

I only read USSM once in awhile.

Can’t stand the formatting and commenting. Content is good, but most stuff is repeated over here or at FanGraphs.

So to answer your question, yes, I would like linking to important stuff from USSM. It is also helpful to get more eyes over there from non-Mariner fans who browse SBN.

Read it through an RSS reader like Google Reader

and voila, no formatting problems – and you never have to see the comments.

Read it anyway,

but I think it doesn’t hurt to link something especially excellent like Dave’s latest.

I'm sure most already read the articles

If there’s a specific aspect that USSM covers that isn’t already covered here I don’t see any harm in crossing the debate over to the LL userbase, though.

FWIW I find the content excellent but the comments not so excellent. Would be curious to see how the LL commenters responded, on perhaps a trial basis.

Thanks Jeff.

I have very limited amounts of spare time, so two Mariners blogs are too many. I much prefer the wit you and other sexy people put into the stories. That said, I will check out an article or two if you guys recommend them.

Like this one for instance.I liked it and I agree, with kind of money kicking around, why not invest wisely in a known producer? Or trade away some of our under producers to really increase our chances to compete with Angles.

I discovered LL when Jeff sold out to the man...

…and moved L43 —> LookoutLanding onto SBN.

I mean, going from L43—>Fire Bavasi then back to L43 was fine. But I used to have a UserID in the teens, so I go waaaay back. I believe I discovered it via link on the Seattle P-I blog (in the Mike Thompson era).

You still have the UserID Paul. If you click on your profile and look at the blogs you are a member of, some of them

still have your ID number if you had it before the switch. You are still #16 and I’m still #193.

Though, look at my ID numbers, I find it very sad that I’m #193 on LL and I joined on May 2nd, 2005, but I’m #196 on Blue Jay Banter and I joined there on February 12th, 2008.

..."that blog that drinks a lot..."

There is a fair amount of mutual commenting though, which is good.

But they mention LL frequently

Which was enough for me to eventually discover that the Mariner blogosphere was twice as awesome as I’d originally thought it to be

To actually answer your question, Jeff, I really appreciate the links to USSM b/c I don't go there frequently.

I just assume that their most important insights will trickle over to LL eventually (and vice-versa) eventually. The lack of a similar community over there (which is an understandable choice for them) is the reason why I don’t visit often.

Definitely read USSM

But the commenters here are better. USSM comments are only good for skimming to the responses by Dave.

by lailaihei on Nov 3, 2009 11:24 AM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

LL could just copy all of Dave and DMZ's comments from each USSM post

and post them here, and save everyone the ‘control-f’ routine.

I read virtually everything at USSM.

Pointing out something particularly worth reading never hurts, though.

I always laugh whenever I see a "I know this is off-topic, but [deleted, off-topic]" comment at USSM.

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

Another reason why it is worth reading the comments at USSM

I check USSM and LL every day (several times a day). I used to read both the posts and the comments religiously, and I posted fairly regularly in game threads, but now I just don’t have the time. Yet it remains worthwhile to see if any commenters will go down in flames.

Good post.

A question for y’all: Doesn’t seem like the Rangers are in a similar position? After years of having bad defenders at most positions and little to no pitching depth, they were able to throw out 1.5+WAR players at 6/9 positions (1B, C, and DH sucked), four 1.3+ WAR starting pitchers, and three 1.3+ WAR relievers. When realizing that it was a rebuilding year and the 3 positions that sucked were either young guys (Chris Davis, Saltalamacchia, and Teagarden) or low-risk/high-reward types (Andruw Jones), there seemed to do a good job out of getting a lot out of a small payroll.

I guess there are 2 major differences. With ownership changing hands, no one knows for sure what the Rangers payroll will look like next year (or if the sale will finalize too late for major roster signings). Second, the Rangers farm system has been built up such that they can look internally for potential high WAR players (Justin Smoak, Feliz and Holland, Pedro Strop).

If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

Hmmm... I dunno....

I still remember this… And how DMZ got a special invite to the 2006 Mariners Christmas party:
