Close race, Lincecum got 100 points, Carpenter 94, Wainwright 90.

Also, what the hell, Will Carroll gets to vote on these? Gross.

Color me surprised

I did suspect that Carpenter and Wainwright would split the St. Louis vote

He was defensible, even when you throw out wins

He pitched more innings and had a slight higher ERA than Lincecum. Their BABIP’s were both above .300 as well, implying that neither got much help from his defense. The main reason Waino outperformed his FIP so much (while Lincecum underperformed it), was a lot higher. Crediting a pitcher for performing well with runners on base (whether it’s luck or not) is a matter of preference.

Still, I would be that the voters only saw the winz.

Lincecum's 15 wins are the 2nd lowest total for a Cy Young winning starter.

Fernando Valenzuela went 13-7 when he won the 1981 NL Cy Young.

Which was a strike year.

Lowest non-strike year total for a starter…maybe ever?

Says a lot about how far the voters have come -

the two CY winners barely have 30 wins between them.

This is slightly nuts:
Two voters, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus and Keith Law of ESPN.com, did not include Carpenter on their ballots.

Hard work never killed nobody, but I won't take my chances.
