My prediction is Griffey and Beltre.
Awaiting the day I catch a Russell Branyan foul ball. I will make love to it.

If Felix gets the W today, he'll be tied for the league lead!
Yay meaningless statistics that certain writers tend to weigh heavily when choosing postseason awards!

YAY FELIX DAY!
Bandwidth permitting, I will actually be watching this game! I don’t care if Felix still pitches like a retard – he’s an idiot savant with a baseball now!
I hope something awesome happens today.
I can’t believe this year is over, it has gone by so fast again. :(

That's what happens when your team is actually fun to watch.
When they suck, the season tends to drag.

Remember how Girffey's farewell was supposed to sell out the last homestand?
Even the people who like Griffey are bored of Griffey
I almost wonder if that means that people think he's coming back
Since he didn’t announce any retirement plans
I want to poop at your house - Thingray
I seriously believe it's like 75/25 he's going to return
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 4, 2009 1:06 PM PDT up reply actions
I'm starting to think that too
As long as his role is handled properly (kinda like this year was) then I’d be ok with that
I want to poop at your house - Thingray
After hearing him with Shannon today I'd say more like 90/10.
But he certainly sounded open to some other role.
Fuck the Angels!
I only like this if the team is allowed to phantom 60-day DL him at any time during the season

I want this game to be tied 0-0 in the ninth and for Griffey to come up with a walkoff homer.
Then immediately announce his retirement.

Seriously though, I think if his lack of hustle were this tranparent I think he would have been benched long ago
Upton was benched for much less
Then why keep playing him if he's hurt?
We have 2 other guys that are perfectly capable of playing out there, and they can actually produce on base at least a tiny bit more than Hall in his current state

I don't know
But I am skeptical that Hall is dogging it this much, if he’s hurt my guess is that they have told him to take it easy

His nickname, “Nig”, is often adjudged to be a racist reference to his dark complexion.3 In the first half of the 20th Century, before the game was integrated, ball players with a dark complexion were sometimes nicknamed “Nig.”56 In addition to Cuppy, the following other major league players bore the nickname: Johnny Beazley (1941-49), Joe Berry (1921-22), Bobby Bragan (1940-48), Nig Clarke, Nig Fuller (1902), Johnny Grabowski (1923-31), Nig Lipscomb (1937), Charlie Niebergall (1921-24), Nig Perrine (1907), and Frank Smith (1904-15).

GMZ and Sims are talking RZR.
This is so awesome.
Best defense of the decade?
Is GMZ referring to Dave’s article at Fangraphs?
How can you have more putout then most clubs?
That only means you play more bottom of the 9ths then others.
Or was he talking about a special area where the POs summand?
You could have extras!
Do dropped third strikes count as putouts for the catcher and the first baseman?
50!
Droped third strikes that get thrown to first are a putout for the 1B
Extras are a reason though.

Are there any historical examples of a country actually trading or exchanging its king for something (and that king becoming monarch of the country to which he was traded?)
I would assume so. Agincourt was all crazy because the knights got bludgeoned to death after getting stuck in mud instead of ransomed as was customary.
50!
Maybe the Dutch giving the British William and Mary during the Glorious Revolution?
Although that’s more of a waiver wire deal than a big trade.
Found some!
Typically, the most well-known example in medieval England of capture and ransom is that of King Richard I, who in 1192 was seized by Duke Leopold V of Austria on his way home from his crusade to the Holy Land. The Duke held Richard prisoner for more than a year until his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, could raise the 150,000-mark ransom, an amount that nearly bankrupted England.
While Chaucer would have been very familiar with this historical event, there was another capture-and-ransom incident that occurred in his lifetime, when he was 13, that more closely resembles the two cousins’ imprisonment in the Knight’s Tale. Four years before Chaucer served in King Edward III’s army, Edward III’s son Edward the Black Prince captured King John II of France at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. Edward sent John back to England, where he was imprisoned in the Tower of London — although he was permitted privileges and luxuries — and his ransom was set at 3 million crowns, a prohibitive amount at the time. In 1360, Edward III agreed to release John to return to France to raise the ransom, and John left his son, Louis, as a replacement hostage. Louis, however, escaped and fled to France. John was so incensed at his son’s perceived lack of honor that he surrendered himself to the English and died in captivity.
50!
No.
The key word is “ransom.” The enemy captures your king and you pay a ransom/bounty to get him back.
There'd be no point in buying a monarch.
There’s so many landless (and competent) nobles around that would jump at the opportunity.
I am going to make a music video for youtube

As a college student, I need players like Miguel Batista
When I sit down to watch the game with a test the next day I need to study for or something, and I’m torn between watching the game and studying for the test, Miguel Batista would make life easier. I always knew I could shut off the TV whenever he came into pitch and study. Miguel Batista has singlehandedly improved my GPA. I will miss him.

We got to see Gutierrez develop into a star, Felix finally starting to take it to the next level we all knew he was capable of, and Griffey probably walking off into the sunset….The team probably wasn’t as good as the record might indicate, but we’ve got some real talent that has been a pleasure to watch this year.

Not to put a damper on things
but This will be a moot point when he brings his 8.60 ERA back next year.
Honestly, if you go along the lines that Putz, not Silva, was the clubhouse cancer last year...
Then yes, he’s a horrible sucktastic pitcher…but I bet he’s a decent guy.
It's pretty clear that even if he was the cancer, he's turned himself around from that.
I’ve actually enjoyed watching him goof around in the pen with the guys.
