You know what was nice about Cal Ripken when he got older? He still looked good.
Jeter & A-Rod? Not so much, yeesh.
Wow
I just looked at both of them, I mean really looked at them.
Not my thing. Nossir…

These five people were each photographed staring at one of the following five things:
A mirror, a piece of coconut cream pie, an adorable puppy, a piece of copper wiring and direct sunlight
Can you match each player to his object? Here are some clues!
Scott Kazmir enjoys going to the beach.
Vladimir Guerrero is more of a cat person than Joba Chamberlain, but less of a bid person than Jeff Sullivan.
CC Sabathia is not fond of Oreos.
Sally is taller than Susan, who is shorter than Slyvia but taller than Stephanie.
The correct answer is 9.

I can't decide if I hate the Yankees because their fans are in their opponent's park in the postseason
or the Angels because their fans and their dumbass thunderstix can’t fill their own damn park with their own damned fans.

Can't hate on a fanbase for showing up.
You have to with the Angels and their fans. If you want to keep the opposing team’s fans out, buy the tickets.
I hate the Red Sox for showing up.

Only because most of them are faux fans.
Either they have never traveled/live to Boston or were not fans of the Red Sox until 2004. With Yankee fans, most of them have traveled/lived in New York or have been lifelong fans.
I think a lot of those since '04 Boston fans had been Yankee faux fans before then.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the balance of power has shifted after the Red Sox got booted out of the playoffs.

The thing is, people say that, but they're usually not sitting close enough to home plate to have the microphone pick them up.
When you’re that close, you should easily be able to see that, you know, the ball is in the dirt.

What the hell does the ump want the catcher to do, lay down so he can see better?
That exchange with Scioscia really pissed me off
They have a microphone on him, he was talking to Scioscia about not being able to see the strike zone so well.
The catcher was blocking his view, he wanted him to get lower.
Yep
And he’ll call all the balls and strikes correctly as they’re supposed be called.
Until he doesn’t anymore, randomly and without reason.

People can justify it by saying the run wouldn't have scored because the catch would have been the third out.
And nobody would have been on third base in the first place.
But yeah, I don’t agree with it.
Cano was definitely safe. Never got touched.
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!
Why isn't that a reviewable play, by the way?
Partial instant replay just doesn’t make sense. It’s gotta be all or nothing.
Yesterday's Pants

Well honestly, it's like saying "Hey, we only want the exact right call in this one situation."
That’s silly. Shouldn’t we want the exact right call in every situation? And if not, if we’re not utilizing technology to it’s capabilities, shouldn’t we be ok with the calls always being unreviewable? At least give them two challenges or something like football? It doesn’t make sense to allow umps to decide games. Scioscia should’ve been able to challenge the Swisher pick off, and Girardi should’ve been able to challenge the tag-up.

Depends on your perspective to the game I suppose.
Baseball is like life, it isn’t perfect. Sometimes it’s frustrating. There’s no getting everything perfect
Still, if managers get 1-2 challenges a game, imperfections would happen. Managers would have to pick their spots.
I don’t see why that would hurt.

Yesterday's Pants
A blog-thingy about the Mariners and stuff.
by BrettJMiller on Oct 20, 2009 6:34 PM PDT up reply actions
It's the only way can do it, though.
You have to look at when the catch is made and then peripherally judge when the runner left the base.
He obviously didn't see the runner though
You can’t call him out on a play like that when you weren’t even looking. You have to assume he didn’t leave early, because that’s the case the majority of the time.
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!
What do you mean he didn't see the runner?
He was positioned so the runner was peripherally in view as he was watching the catch.
To me it didn't look like he was in a position where the runner would be in his peripherals
I could be wrong, but it seemed like he was just guessing.
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!

Seems the Yankees have had the majority of calls the entire series.
But yeah, it’s getting out of hand regardless.
I hope it gets worse. I hope it gets so freaking bad it forces the umpires union and MLB to do something about it.
The more high profile bad calls in the playoffs the better. This playoff system with the umps is dumb.
Another thing: how did CB Bucknor get to be a postseason umpire?
I thought they rewarded the best umpires of the year. CB Bucknor is pretty consistently one of the worst umpires in the league.

They don't though, they implemented a new system a few years back.
Umpire crews can’t work consecutive series and I don’t think they can work consecutive WS. It pretty much guarantees nearly every umpire crew gets to rotate into a post season series. If I remember correctly it came about shortly after MLB broke the umpire union.
That's really stupid sounding.

McClellan called Swisher out for leaving too early on a sac fly, despite the fact that he clearly didn't and McClellan wasn't even looking at him
Then later, Posada got caught in a run down between 3rd and home. Cano was advancing to third while the rundown was happening, but he wasn’t on the bag, so Napoli tagged them both, and they were both obviously out, but McClellan called Cano safe. I think there was one more but I missed it.

Swisher was picked off and called safe, Swisher was called out for leaving third early on a sac fly when he didn’t, Posada caught in a run down between third and home, Cabrera tries to take third, both runners tagged while not standing on the bag but only Posada called out.
