Last night was my Beltre appreciation night.
My last Mariner game for the year. He hit a HR for me. As he was rounding the bases, I screamed “SIGN WITH THE ANGELS!”. I am hoping that, through the din, the message was received subliminally.

Huh
Jose Lopez has been selected as the Mariners’ candidate to receive the 2009 Heart and Hustle Award
…
Previous winners are Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore (2008), former Astros star Craig Biggio (2006 and ’07) and shortstop David Eckstein (2005).
He played through tragedy!

So if he'd been thrown out, that could have been scored a single, out trying to take second.
But if he makes it, it’s always a double.

by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions
But then in makes very little sense to trade him because the return wwouldn't be as goo.d
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions
But is it still worth it to trade him?
Obviously a team that intends to resign him is going to be willing to give up more in return, especially since we aren’t in a situation where we can’t compete before he’s eligible for FA.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 8:56 PM PDT up reply actions
I guess what I am saying is that the odds of getting what you want
are lower if the team you are trading him to isn’t going to resign him right away.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions
True, but look at what the Cardinals gave up for Holliday
They still think its 1997. Its not unprecedented.
Oh yeah.
It might happen, I’m just not optimistic that it would.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions
GMZ could always hang onto him to see what's going on with contracts.
Prices have been coming down haven’t they? Or maybe not for big time players like Feliz. And the disappearing test is annoying. Probably a typo in there.
Basically, I'm excited since it's GMZ at the reigns
Anybody else, not so much.
I don't see any medium or small market teams trading for him
Boston’s the obvious frontrunner.
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions
I can be completely rational on this topic
after losing RJ, Griffey an A-Rod in three striaght years losing Felix ain’t nothin
Same deal.
And the bigger issue is that Felix came along after the internet. I heard about him when he was in AA. I’ve been following him all the way through his development and following closely. And now, when he FINALLY fucking becmomes the pitcher we thought he could be, he might be leaving.
At least we got to see R.J., Griffey and (to a lesser extent) A-Rod be great for a few years and go to the playoffs.

A hypothetical package including a hypothetical good young SS would be great
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions
Can you think of a package that a team could offer to make us better without Felix?
There are a limited amount of teams that will/can trade for Felix and I can’t put together any reasonable package in my head that makes us better in 2010.
But I’m pretty stupid so who knows!
I can think of a package that would give us a lot of value and free up payroll
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions
That would be rosterbation which is annoying as hell.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 8:52 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah but Jeff knows what he's talking about.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I don't really feel much like speculating though
Anything at this point would just be pulling names out of a hat and I haven’t done the necessary research.
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions
Well, Heyward probably gets them a good part of the way there, anyway.
Do they have any major leaguers than intrigue you?
Look I really don't want to encourage this
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 9:14 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
I'm trying to offer little of my own opinion and get you to start something.
Nobody here is gonna rosterbate… but nobody will mind if you do.
But all I know are names and abilities
I don’t know shit about who’s realistic.
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 9:16 PM PDT up reply actions
A lot
I’d try to get one ready or close-to-ready player at a problem position, as well as a pretty good young starter.
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions
And if you can't get what you want then try to win by 2011.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions
I'd be happy to hang on to him until July just to see
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
Sure, it's possible his value is higher then anyways.
by Aaron Campeau on Oct 2, 2009 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions
One problem is that players you want in the winter could be established by July
and therefore less likely to be traded.
by Jeff Sullivan on Oct 2, 2009 9:21 PM PDT up reply actions
And I kind of want this resolved early this winter, anyway.
I mean I want to hear that either we extended Felix or we’re shopping him. Just waiting is torture.
And also what teams have a need for 2 years of an ace like Felix
Who also have enough prospects or kinds of players GMZ likes to make it worth it.
For example, the Angels could definitely use Felix, but they couldn’t get him.
We can narrow down the teams a bit this way.
There's no way they give up Heyward and McCann.
But if GMZ was offered that he would probably say yes before running any numbers.
I'm just saying if some one asks who I'm intersted in
I give them a list of names. It’s not like you’re asking for anything specific, its just testing the waters
Milwaukee and Baltimore are NOT in the mix for Felix.
Tampa Bay is possible, but how often have you seen them trade away highly talented players since Friedman took over?
I’m not seeing the New York connection. Braves are a possibility but I don’t think they have the depth in their system to be trading for Felix at this point.
Why not
The Brewers have that Furcal clone, the Orioles have Wieters. You’d at least give them a call
Orioles are not going to trade Wieters, they are not thinking about competing in 2010/2011.
And trading Wieters doesn’t make sense at all, anyway.
Alcides Escobar is valued by the Brewers way more than any independent scouts or other orgs seem to, we wouldn’t get a great value for him.
All I'm saying is there's no point in shooting down limitless possiblities just because you are cranky
by Poochie on Oct 2, 2009 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
I'm not cranky...
I’m trying to tell you that Felix is going to cost a team a shit ton of talent, and most teams aren’t willing to give up 3-win major league players or future all-stars that are still under club control for 5+ years.
If we make a deal, it’s probably going to be a very fine young major leaguer (like Buchholz) and 3-4 B to B+ prospects.
I'm going by Sickles' style ratings... B and B+ prospects are like Moore, Saunders, etc.
Buchholz is worth more than Gonzalez right now anyway.
"A" prospects are like top 3 guys.
We were never going to get multiple A or A- guys plus a great major leaguer.
Why not?
One great major leaguer, plus one a prospect, plus something else seems about right. Cite the Bedard trade as precedent.
Agreed, that's way too little for a 23 year old ace under club control for 2 more years
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!
This is by no means a guarantee that he's gone by the way
Still a great shot he re-signs. But keep on your toes. And don’t pay heed to any suspect information that may be floating around. You should know by now who to trust and who to ignore.

Yeah, I know
I was just trying to imagine the worst possible place for him to sign. This way, I’ll feel relieved when it’s some other team.
Fuck the Angels! And the Yankees and Red Sox while we're at it.
Moores liked him.
And he seems like a smart enough dude. Some curious moves, but some good ones too. And pretty much fourteen dollars to work with. I don’t know. I’m kind of happy for him. He’ll probably get a better job.
I've never been too down on him
I just can’t believe a GM with that record lasted as long as he did.

If he is, that is not relevant to my statement
I said lately. I think he’s had a really good year all around
My Mariners blog - SodoMojo Twitter Feed, Fuck the fucking Angels!
So he's a little over 80% in hold/save situations? That doesn't seem awful.
Thats not how we evaluate people here anyway, but it doesn’t seem awful even by traditional standard.
Could you tell me what's the name of this percentage?
Where a middle reliever comes in and doesn’t blow the lead. (I didn’t know how to find it). Thank you.
Thank you, I thought that might be it but
was doubting my eyes when I checked up Nellie’s numbers from 2001.
26 holds, 4 saves, 1 BSv
And Rhodes was 31 holds, 3 saves, 4 Bsv
And both Nellie and Rhodes didn’t blow a single hold situation in 2001 out of 57 chances.
No wonder I thought I had the wrong stats. And no wonder I miss them. Jeez awesome.
Two guys like those could be the difference between us now and postseason playas.
Reminiscing, yay!
While you’re at it, do you have any interesting stories about 1995? People don’t talk about that team enough.
