SonicsGate: watch the doc
I hate the title (can we stop with the -gate suffixes please?), and I think there were two important parts not touched on (what the team meant to the city because it held the only active championship trophy and the renovation which was also designed to squash any chance for an NHL team here), but on the whole it's well done.

Watched this yesterday.
Great documentary on everything from the Sonics to the Mariners and Seahawks. Must see for all Seattle fans, no matter your feelings toward basketball.
It had me in tears
It still hurts they left and I don’t think that will ever go away. But I was glad I watched it and would recommend it to anyone. Sherman Alexie was particularly great at representing the fan’s point of view.
Nice vid.
I couldn’t believe the stupidity of Stern’s responses to the press conference questions around the 76 minute mark. It was a mix of lies, self defense, and childishness.
I haven’t watched an NBA game since this all went down, and I won’t until I get to see the Seattle Supersonics again.
One aspect of it the Sonics leaving that never occurred me
until Alexie pointed it out, is the likely big impact it had on Seattle’s black community.
Walking by the Boy's and Girl's Club a block away from my house
with the huge Sonics mural painted on the side always makes me sad and a bit angry.

I thought it was a good film
I haven’t been interested in the Sonics or the NBA since the end of the 90s, but this film was entertaining and it held my attention for 2 whole hours, so on that level it is very well done.
One thing I didn't quite get...
… was over the ownership of our “history.” I thought that the history stayed here in Seattle… that Bennett gave it to the city. But at the end it said he still owned it.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Please tell me all those Jersey’s aren’t hanging up in OKC.
This is complicated, but the history is shared between Seattle and OKC.
Basically, Bennett has the right to use the history however he sees fit, but the jerseys and championship trophy will stay in Seattle most of the time. IF, however, we get an NBA team in the five years after the settlement the history could revert back to Seattle’s sole ownership, but again, it’s really complicated.
Percy Allen wrote an article at the time explaining it in detail.
