Padilla always looks
Like he took a swim in a deep fryer just before the game.
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
I'm watching it
and yet I still refuse to believe somebody had choice and decided Vicente Padilla was in fact the second best starting pitcher on their pitching staff.
Its almost as if the lineup he shut down was overwhelmingly righthanded
and the one he is facing today is full of good lefthanded hitters
Padilla attributes his success in the NL
to his Dodger’s teammates treating him like family.
Well okay then.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
Explain
I could very well be missing something, but I don’t see any of his pitches aside from maybe his fastball (which fluctuates in success pretty violently in recent years) being above average and he gets hit at a slightly below average pace.
Stuff = ability to miss bats.
Getting hit = irrelevant mix of stuff, control, defense, park, etc
The Dodgers color guy
just said Raul Ibanez adds a lot both offensively and defensively.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
The Dodgers have a color guy?
Doesn’t Scully usually work alone? Does that change for the playoffs?
Nice Guys Finish Third - My semantics are a waste of time.
For radio only games
Vin does the first 3, Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner do the middle 3 and Vin finishes up.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
They also apparently have a guy who does some radio
only when they travel east of Colorado. Probably to save the wear and tear on Vin Scully.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
I like Charlie Steiner
I think he and Jon Miller should team up for a broadcast.
Nice Guys Finish Third - My semantics are a waste of time.
Steiner and Monday are probably one of the best B teams
as far as baseball broadcasting goes. They’re better than a lot of teams A teams.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
He meant that
In the way that Raul’s defense is offensive.
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
5.06 ERA following innings in which the Phillies score
That maybe one of the most useless stats I’ve ever seen presented as something that’s a reputable representation of performance.

Pedro is scary good today
But a totally different guy than he used to be, not nearly as much power.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Out of all the hall of fame pitchers we have seen the last 20 years, Pedro has always been my favorite to watch.

RJ is awesome, but for some reason I have always enjoyed Pedro more.
And Felix isn’t a Hall of Famer yet. But watching him pitch is the closest thing to Pedro we’ve had.
FUCK THE ANGELS! FUCK THE ANGELS! FUCK THE ANGELS!
Much like Chuck Norris
I’m pretty sure RJ doesn’t know how to cry.

Wait what
“You have to give it to the home plate umpire who has done a great job today. He recognized that both these pitchers are on top of their games so he called strikes early and often and he went with the flow.”

He has to have the most frustrating job in baseball
its not surprising he looks bad with so few reps
He's like Kirk Gibson
He can’t run worth a shit but he can hit the ball a long way.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Scoring that as an error?
I thought you couldn’t have an error on a DP since you can only assume 1 out.
"Good evening Blazer fans, wherever you may be!"-Bill Schonely
Yeah, but the error was to allow the baserunner to advance home, so it counts.
If the fielder makes a bad throw and neither the hitter nor any runners advance another base, there is no error

It's just too much. Too much traffic, too much crowding
Also, I got into an argument with a fireman over parking once while there. It’s very claustrophobic, and expensive and blah. Driving there alone was enough to make me hate it.
"Let this big fucker come in and walk the world here." - Dave Niehaus on JJ Putz
Here is my New York story:
My mother came to visit and I was seeing her off at Penn Station. It was going to be the last time I would see her in months and it was a kind of emotional moment.
While we were having this moment, in the middle of the station, in front of the gate, an old lady came up on her walker beside us and started chanting “excuse me, excuse me, excuse me”. I pointed this out and my mother, surprised, got out of the way and exclaimed “Oh, I’m sorry!”
The old lady snarled, “No, you aren’t, you bitch!”
For a long time, this typified my New York experience: mass crowding, people in senseless hurries, intolerable rudeness. But again, it all depends on where you are and who you’re with.
