Two biggest blunders for me:

Randy Winn
David Bell

Guy I remembered but couldn’t think of his name:

Kevin Mitchell

Complete rosters:

2002, 2006, 2007, 2009 [fuck you, Brad Wilkerson for 2008]

Got 161/200

Mainly missed players from before ’95 since I was born in ’91 and only remember the stars from then.

David Bell, Paul Sorrento, Jeff Fassero, and Omar Vizquel (D’oh! Totally forgot about him) were my biggest misses. And I had no idea Brian Giles played for us.

Yes, we have a coupon.

I got everybody after 2000...

157/200 many of them played before I was born and even then I didn’t know how to spell many of the names.

You got slurved!

Who the hell was Pete O’Brien,Jeffery Lenoard, or Greg Briley?

And how the hell did I forget Carl Everett,Brad Wilkerson or David Seigui?

The one that ticked me off was forgetting John Mabry.

Completely don’t remember him playing for the M’s in the ’90’s.

by Kermit. on Oct 12, 2009 11:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I remember him playing, but starting?

He always seemed to come up with the big PH home run.

by Wilder. on Oct 13, 2009 2:12 PM PDT up reply actions

That's what got me. He was a bench bat.

It’s about the same as Stan Javier, Tom Lampkin, or Greg Colbrunn getting an OD start.
(Of course, Bloomquist and McLemore had OD starts, so I probably should’ve guessed it)

by marc w on Oct 13, 2009 2:16 PM PDT up reply actions

But Pee Wee Briley was a hero of mine for a walk-off HR he hit once

Too bad he couldn’t OBP .300.
Jeff Leonard was an all-star a few times.

with the caveat that I was born in 1988, etc.

Complete: 2001-2004, 2006-2009

Fuck you John Mabry and Wilson Valdez. How did I forget Joey Cora, Darren Bragg, and Jeff Fassero, Mariner ace?

Reminded me of the stat that Griffey played with 40-some different LFs during his career in Seattle.

Forgot O’Brien and every starting LF’er we had until John Mabry. It was never worth remembering them, they would be gone in a month.

Also, Russ Davis took me forever to recall.

I went over the Tino trade a dozen times trying to say it fast enough to overcome the mental block.

Sterling Hitchcock.

Batted .393/.614/.464 for 2009 Diablos, #5 in OBP for PSSBL Rocky Division.

Somehow, I forgot about Mike Blowers. MIKE BLOWERS! Listening to him for every game apparently doesn’t help me remember him.

Mostly got killed by 3B and LF. Bleh.

Carlos Guillen and Randy Winn escaped my mind.

Also, fuck you Jeff Cirillo.

by Craig Powers on Oct 13, 2009 7:15 AM PDT reply actions

Good game

Spelling cost me a couple points. I said Russel branyan, and didn’t think to add another “L”.

I forgot Vidro, which I think is actually a good thing. And I couldn’t remember Olivo’s first name, which wasted a lot of time.

Final score was 166.

Forgot about David Bell, blacked out Jeff Cirillo, and a multitude of LF’s. Although I did get some dude named Tracy Jones when I started entering in common last names at the end.

by drblacknwhite on Oct 13, 2009 6:21 PM PDT reply actions

I got 191

I missed Jeffrey Leonard, Brian Giles, Brian Holman, Reggie Jefferson and all the left fielders from ‘91 – ’94. The only guy I missed from ’95 – ’09 was Wilson Valdez. I still can’t remember ever seeing him play.

David Segui, Pete O’Brien and Mark McLemore were my biggest misses. Also, who the fuck is Felix Fermin?

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

by Benne on Oct 14, 2009 7:07 AM PDT reply actions

He was a DH, Fermin was a SS.

It was basically OK that El Gato couldn’t really hit (though he had a Vidro-esque high BA season with the M’s); he was the short-term stopgap until A-Rod arrived.

Ah, trades. Anyone want to attempt this M's transaction quiz?

1: Tony Bernazard, ex M’s 2B and ex Mets executive/insane man, was traded for these two M’s starters in the mid-80s?
2: The M’s bullpen was excellent in 1982, featuring three players with FIPs ~3.5 (and ERAs much lower). One was traded for a player who invented a piece of baseball equipment. Another was traded for a journeyman OF who was the #1 overall draft pick in 1975 (and whose M’s career was marred by an illness he contracted in spring training: Valley Fever). The third was traded for the M’s starting catcher in ‘84, ’85 and ’86. Who were they?
3: The Mariners shipped Mike Blowers to the Dodgers in exchange for a player who got some playing time for the M’s in 2008. Who was it?
4: The player from q. 3 was then traded by the M’s to Toronto for Edwin Hurtado. The M’s threw in this hard-throwing reliever who had two seasons in the M’s bullpen with FIPs in the 3.5 range and K/9’s around 10.
5: David Arias (now David Ortiz) was sent to Minnesota in exchange for this 3B?
6: LF Kevin Mitchell was acquired by the M’s in a blockbuster deal that sent this pitcher to the Giants?
7: And what pitcher did the M’s receive for Mitchell a year later?
8: Dave Hansen netted the M’s a single-A reliever in the Padres system who later had a half-decent call-up in a recent season. Who was it?
9: Sean Green was acquired for this hard-throwing reliever, who appeared in 20 games with the M’s.
10: This active player was acquired in one of the M’s biggest trades, and then traded for a catcher who turned out to be a major disappointment. I could either be talking about Freddie Garcia OR…..?

Bonus: This M’s reliever, at one point one of their biggest prospects ever, was traded for another reliever in 1988. Both players were released prior to 1989 (though the M’s player later had a half-decent career). Who was the M’s player, and who was he traded for?

I think I have 4, 5, 6, and maybe 8

but I’m not sure if I should reply since I have pretty much no idea on the others.

by shinallsrevenge on Oct 14, 2009 12:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Ah, what the hell....

4. Bill Risley
5. Dave Hollins
6. Billy Swift
8. Jared Wells?

by shinallsrevenge on Oct 14, 2009 12:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, I'm a tiny bit surprised Risley wasn't harder for people. Good call.

5. That one’s easier, yeah. Same with 6. 8. No, Wells was acquired for Cha Seung Baek.

by marc w on Oct 14, 2009 2:22 PM PDT up reply actions

.

9: Aaron “Country” Taylor…

I actually kinda liked him.

I did q. 2 with you in mind, Paul.

One of the three is one of your faves (as I recall).

by marc w on Oct 14, 2009 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions

So, knowing Cuffs is one of them...

I’m guessing that Ed Vandenburg (sp?) is another one of those bullpen arms.

Yes and yes. (Vande Berg)

Vande Berg was the guy traded for someone who invented a piece of equipment…….

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

1. Don’t know!
2. Don’t know!
3. Miguel Cairo!
4. Bill Risley
5. Dave Hollins
6. Swift/Burba/Jackson
7. Norm Charlton (Mitchell would SLG .600 the next two season while Charlton would throw ~30 innnings before injuring himself)
8. It’s not Jared Wells!
9. I thought he was an original Mariner
10. Miguel Olivo

by Poochie on Oct 14, 2009 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Ok, answers

1: Jack Perconte and Gorman Thomas
2: Ed Vande Berg was traded for Steve Yeager, Bryan Clark swapped for Barry Bonnell and Cuffs Caudill got us Bob ‘Sarge’ Kearney.

9: Jon Huber

I think Poochie et al got the rest.

by marc w on Oct 15, 2009 12:33 AM PDT up reply actions

Only 152

Missed LF from 90-00 (Seriously, Al Martin was the first one I got, and that only because I tried to enter ‘Martinez’ and it slapped in Martin before I could finish).

Guy I feel worst about missing: Joey Cora
Guy I feel the least worst about missing: tie – Tracy Jones, Wilson Valdez

I also didn’t realize that Guillen started three consecutive seasons at different positions (99 -2B, 00 – 3B, 01 – SS)
